Review Summary

I purchased the Sony A7 IV in October 2024, and after using it alongside my Sony A9, the conclusion is clear: the A7 IV is a less durable camera in almost every aspect. The main issue I encountered is the rear screen. Even with a protective glass applied from day one, the screen still ended up cracked under normal use. I never experienced this problem with the A9, which confirms that the A7 IV is built with weaker materials. For a camera at this price point, that is disappointing. Overall, the camera delivers on image quality and features, but its durability is not at the level required for demanding professional use. In photography, where equipment must withstand real working conditions, specifications on paper mean very little if the body cannot handle the workload. In conclusion, the Sony A7 IV offers strong specs, but the fragility of its screen and the overall lack of sturdiness compared to the A9 make it a poor choice for those who value long-term reliability and resistance.

This camera was quite an upgrade! Going from my a7iii to the iv is a world of difference and Adorama made it easy! 10 bit color, the new menu system, the shots are amazing straight out of camera! Would recommend easily as a great hybrid for photo or video, both stunning.

This is my second A7iv, and there is a reason I bought another. Because I like it, and I needed a backup body.

The a7 IV is a fantastic camera for a variety of photographers ranging from the amateur to the advanced/professional. While I'm still learning the many features, I love the wide range of customization it provides.

I was ready to switch to a full-frame camera. I have used Sony gear since I started taking photos with my Minolta (Sony) cameras including a film camera purchased in 1978. I like the build quality of the cameras as well as the feel in my hands. I determined that the Sony A7IV would be sufficient for my personal needs. Yes, it doesn't have the bells and whistles of say the A7RV, but it is about $1000 less. The menu is easy to use once you get used to the layout. I do not use the camera for videos, but that is my preference. It does have several options for doing video should you be interested in that function. The camera can shoot at 10 fps. Again, Sony has faster cameras, which is not an issue for what I photograph. I have enjoyed the camera, and have not found it lacking in my style of photography.

It's 2 years old at the time of purchase. It is absolutely worth it. From reading many many reviews and a ton of research, a little better low light than the newer a7r5 if you don't need the 61mp. And as a portrait, lifestyle, and street photography enthusiast i don't. It's probably comparable to the canon r6 but i can get some amazing sigma or tamron lenses for it. Many many better photographers than i have captured some stunning images with this very body.

I don't know what happened. I seldom used my camera and my shutter curtain stopped moving. It says "Camera Error"

Coming from the Canon mirrorless system, I was underwhelmed by the articulating display on my Sony A7IVA. It does not have the build quality nor the resolution of the Canon's. I owned the EOS R and the R5 and both have an articulating screen superior to this Sony. The only reason I am moving away from the Canon system is that their shutter release on nearly all models is poorly designed for people with impaired sensitivity in their fingers. It is recessed in the grip and difficult to feel - causing me to lose shots while I fiddle trying to find the release. Nikon and Sony have their releases raised and surrounded by their On/Off switches, which make them far easier to feel. I immediately was at home with the Sony release location and feel. The rest of the build quality seems impressive. I will miss the extra megapixels I had in the R5, but I need to work with the Sony a while longer to see if the A7IV is close enough for the work I do.

I love Sony cameras. It's the reason I switched over from Canon however there are a few issues that prevent me from giving this a full 5 star rating. 1.) the menu interface took a while to get use to as each Sony camera has a different menu structure. This has always been my biggest gripe about the cameras as a whole. Sony has said they are working on standardizing all menus but we will see if that is true or not. 2.) is that the sensor is highly susceptible to dust, so when you put a lens on or swap a lens out, it is preferred to have the sensor tilted down to face the floor. Other than this the footage you will get is near cinematic.

This camera is phenomenal. I jumped from a Nikon Z5 to this and I'll never look back. The eye AF is spot on, I love that there are many mirrorless lens options, and the colors and depth in the images produced are outstanding.

The Sony A7iv is an amazing camera. I've had a really great experience with using it so far. The 10 bit 4:2:2 has been a game changer when grading slog 3

This thing is incredible. The amount of detail I can capture is amazing. The amount that I can crop a photo and still have usable pics without pixelation is so refreshing. 100% recommended.

It had been pipe-dream for a long time — climb the 13,700 feet to Teakettle Mountain in the Colorado Rockies and photograph the bizarre natural arch at the summit of the mountain. This arch is a perfect eye in the rock, big enough to put your body through. It's a cin...
Switched from Nikon to Sony.

I came from Nikon DSLR and mirrorless cameras to Sony. I?m very impressed with the A7 IV. It has excellent image quality, incredible autofocus, and it has a nice big grip.
Significant AF and Video capability improvements over A7 III
By Linkmodo
A7 IV offers a significant improvement on AF and Eye Tracking (for both humans and animals), better skin tone rendition, better Video capabilities, flip screen, and better ergonomics. LCD and EVF got a slight bump-up in resolution but are still low-res compared to A7R offerings. New 360 flip screen is harder to tilt up and down for quick raise-camera-up and lower-camera-down shots, with A7 III, it's a mere flip up or down, now with A7 IV, have to first flip the screen to the left, then rota...
