I've been a fan of the A9 series since the first one came out. Every time there is an upgrade, I wonder "what could they possibly do better?". Well, the A9iii is, in my opinion, the ultimate A9 series camera. The AF is even better than the previous models. The global shutter removes whatever vestiges of sync problems may have existed and the colors are incredible. I have no notes.

Implementing 120 photos per second, pre-capturing, AI tracking, all shutter speed flash sync, and flexibility to define function keys helped me to improve the successful rate for nature and macro photography. It was a lot of fun testing the ability to capture subtle moments of birds and using high shutter speed to take flower photos under windy situations with flash. The results were highly acceptable because I didn't do cropping.

I shoot wildlife, travel and some sports. I bought this while my A1 was broken do to a drop. (It was eventually replaced by Extend) I shot a professional soccer match with it, and it performed superbly. Action was captured on the first try, colors were great and LED flicker was not problem at night. Best tool for this use, and also terrific with fill flash, since any shutter speed will work in the Global Shutter. Now the reason why this will not be my Goto body. First, 24mp is just not enough resolution for songbirds, small animals and any other application where you need to crop. APS-C modes which work nicely on the A1 or A7R V are almost useless. The noise levels are also higher than you would expect with that resolution. It is nothing like the low-light capabilities of the 24mp A7III. Second, the continuous shutter is so fast that it takes some getting used to. Even limited in the settings, it is faster than anything you have ever held in your hands. It is very easy to blow through thousands, even tens of thousands of shots in a single shoot if you don't have a light touch on the shutter button and throttle back the high setting in the setup menu. Low continuous shooting is in the range of the fastest DSLR and with the High+, you are essentially taking a video in a slow motion setting. Pre-capture extends this even more. This can be a cool capability, but I never seem to come back from a shoot with less than 2,000 shots and from a sporting with less than 8,000. This means lots of time in post processing for not much difference in those frames. All in all, it is an awesome tool, but it needs to be used with caution. I don't see it being the body I grab first for anything but sports. I am looking forward to an updated A1 with this focus system. It would be the ultimate birding/wildlife tool.

The 7 day Sony Loaner Program is what pushed me over the edge. I bought the camera over a month ago and have been enjoying the new features almost every day since.

I got this camera to complement my A1 but ended up completely replacing the A1. The main reason for purchase is virtually unlimited x-sync that allows me to shoot all sorts of action with strobes in bright daylight. I can get 30 fps shot at 1/12800s fully synced with my Godox strobes (no HSS!) easily with this camera. If you think about it - 30 fps is basically a movie! This is just mind blowing. Auto-focus is great, it's more reliable compared to the A1 thanks to the more advanced ML image recognition. Long time ago I started a petition for Sony to add a pre-shooting buffer to the A1, which of course was ignored but I'm happy to see this feature on the A9 III. It definitely helps to capture more cool moments while shooting sports. Another thing where this camera shines is VIDEO. Thanks to GS, panning looks out of this world. 8 stop IBIS + digital produce footage comparable to Steadicam in smoothness. Overall I'm very happy with this camera, and looking forward to seeing other GS powered cameras from Sony, hopefully with more megapixels for better details. Thanks!

This camera is unbelievable for sports/action. I got shots I never believed were possible. Whether you are a professional sports photographer or a passionate amateur who wants amazing photos of your kids playing sports, the 120 FPS really opens up possibilities that no other camera can compare to. I also really enjoy the pre-capture feature. It makes getting the right shots a breeze because you just have to wait for the action to happen and then start clicking--knowing you will be capturing all the action you need. Highly recommended and worth the money.

Im a disabled photography so I really love Sony cameras due to the customisable aspect. This camera body has a better shutter button position than my Sony A1. The tracking is really fast and it catches the body or eye a lot quicker than the Sony A1 So far this came is perfect. You can still crop lots on your photos. The A1 is the one to get if you enlarge your photos or mega crop, if not this camera will suit every need

This groundbreaking Sony a9 III Camera introduces the world's first full-frame global shutter image sensor, setting a new benchmark in imaging technology. With a max shutter speed of 1/80,000 seconds and 120 fps continuous shooting, it excels in capturing decisive moments with AI subject recognition, while Flash Sync at any shutter speed ensures consistent illumination. The new ergonomic design and quick-response buttons make it comfortable for prolonged handheld shooting. Videographers will also benefit from its 4k 60p video with full pixel readout (4k 120p without cropping), oversampled from 6K.
The α9 III boasts the world's first full-frame stacked 24.6 MP CMOS image sensor with a global shutter system. Unlike rolling shutter sensors, which record images sequentially, this Exmor RS™ image sensor simultaneously exposes and reads all pixels, eliminating rolling shutter distortion. This camera is a game changer for professionals who require distortion-free imagery, such as sports and action photographers.
With its ability to shoot at an astounding 120 frames per second with full AF/AE tracking and no viewfinder blackout, the α9 III is perfect for capturing decisive moments in sports, wildlife, and other fast-paced settings. Its advanced AI processing ensures precise subject recognition, making it a valuable tool for photographers who demand accuracy.
The camera's maximum shutter speed of 1/80,000 second allows photographers to easily freeze fast-moving subjects, even in challenging conditions. Paired with compatible Sony flash units like the HVL-F60RM2 or HVL-F46RM, this camera ensures consistent illumination across the image, catering to photographers who require split-second precision, such as event photographers.
The camera’s global shutter image sensor has 24.6 million effective pixels, delivering high resolution and distortion-free captures of fast-moving subjects. This makes it a must-have for action photographers, including those who shoot motorsports or high-speed events.
The BIONZ XR engine minimizes latency and enhances image processing with up to eight times more processing power than previous models. The high volume of data generated can be processed in real time, even while shooting continuous bursts at up to 120 fps to significantly improves image quality. The camera can also capture high-quality 14-bit RAW images in all still shooting modes.
Photographers who shoot wildlife, portraits in low light, or high ISO settings will appreciate the Composite RAW Shooting feature, which reduces noise and produces high-quality images with low noise. Composite RAW Shooting captures multiple images (4, 8, 16, or 32, selectable) which can then be merged using Sony’s Imaging Edge Desktop™ computer application software. When shooting at low sensitivity levels, the α9 III can use Composite RAW to create images with reduced false color and jaggies.
For handheld shooting, the α9 III is equipped with advanced image stabilization technology, offering 8 steps of stabilization. This is further supported by compatible lenses with built-in image stabilization and improved communication between the camera and lenses. This feature is crucial for photographers who require sharp, blur-free shots, even when using telephoto focal lengths.
Experience uninterrupted viewing through the blackout-free viewfinder, even during fast-paced continuous shooting. This is essential for sports photographers and wildlife photographers who need to follow subjects without interruptions.
The α9 III's high-speed image sensor enables up to 120 AF/AE tracking calculations per second, twice the rate of its predecessor. AF tracks complex subject motions and predicts sudden movements with greater precision than ever before, while AE easily responds to sudden brightness variations.
PPre-Capture records moments that occur before the shutter release, making it easier to capture split-second events. This is valuable for photographers who capture fleeting moments, like birds in flight, even when the shutter release is slightly delayed. Settable from 0.005 to 1 second, it’s available in any file format up to 120 fps with full AF/AE tracking.
The Continuous Shooting Speed Boost temporarily increases the shooting speed during burst shooting, ensuring you capture all the fast-paced action. This is advantageous for sports photographers and those covering high-speed activities with predictably timed moments.
The α9 III's innovative AI processing unit accurately identifies and tracks subjects, even when faces or eyes are obscured. This feature is essential for photographers who need to lock onto and track subjects facing away from the camera or with partially covered faces. It's ideal for portrait and street photographers who encounter various shooting scenarios.
