Great for macro shots of inanimate objects, ideally using a tripod. Not really suitable for hand held macro shots of insects etc. - the lighting power isn't strong enough to get a reasonable shutter speed and f-stop combination for depth of field.

The output power of this product is weak. For uses indoor and in a dimly lit room you can achive some good results. Just don't expect a high powered strobe.

This is a consistent low light output strobe. Suitable for indoor macro photography in a dimly lit room. That being said, good results can made with efforts.

I use the ring light quite a bit for technical shots as well as for pleasure shooting in the garden and woods. I must say up front that I was less than thrilled with the mounting arrangement. I have modified mine by joining the power unit and the mounting adapter into a single unit, which lowers it a fair amount and cures the wiggle. Otherwise, I now prefer it to a similar ring flash type unit. Honestly I feel it is priced a bit on the high side.

Intended for use in extreme close-up photography, the HVL-RLAM ring light produces effective lighting when shooting macro photography with your Sony® a (alpha) DSLR-A100 digital camera. This is ideal when taking macro pictures of flowers, insects and other detailed close ups.
