Not used much yet but an excellent feature-filled flashgun. Expensive and other third party guns will do an equal job.

I bought this flash brand new and when I was showing someone that the flash articulate the the left and the right it broke at the hot shoe. I?ve also been told by Sony experts that this flash has issues with the heart you in general if your not very delicate with it.

I have used this flash for awhile but recently it has been overheating with minimal use on my Sony A7RIV camera. At this price point I am disappointed.

‘WITHOUT THE HEAVY MAGMOD ATTACHMENTS this flash will FALL OFF YOUR SONY ALPHA 7,9 CAMERA! One day. And surprise you!’ Have been using two of these for years. I LOVED THEM WITH ALL MY HEART in the beginning. Was super impressed by the speed and quality when syncing at events and for real estate. Prom, portraits - used them both endlessly. Then one day one fell of the hot shoe mount. And then the other...is it the mount, me or the flash locking mech!? And the bitterness in my heart turned the sweetness into a distant memory. It took a few more bounces off the floor to make me spend on ‘off camera’ items - like the remote driver (which doesn’t fall off my Sony Alphas!) and a couple of MagMod grips to attach them to tripods. Yeah! What a pain when all you want is an on camera flash for bouncing light. And run and gun. But it saves them from their next tumble to the floor! as I said Bitter Sweet! But I can safely say I feel emotionally unstable when shooting a portrait and the LOCKING MECHANISM OBVIOUSLY DOESNT STAY LOCKED! Should rename this the Sony High Impact Flash

I have used Nikon flash units for the majority of my photography work (Weddings) When I moved over to Sony I was reluctant to purchase the rather expensive HVL-F60RM and opted for a cheaper non branded flash to work with my Sony’s A7iii and found them to be inconsistent and unreliable. I recently purchased the Sony flagship flash several weeks ago and find the unit to have a quality build (which it should be for £619) the light is consistence and the HSS works with the flash head in any position. The design of this flash is revolutionary with it’s rotating mount (the flash is in the same position in horizontal as it is in the vertical) The recycle time is excellent and with my line of work is more than adequate for my environment . The menu system is simple and easy to navigate unlike the menus system on my A7iii. I would have paid the asking price of £619 but if you look around I purchased the unit from Wilkinson camera shop based in the Uk for £449. Having been in the wedding g photography business for 12 years you get used to overpriced gear but as stated earlier in this basic review you get what you pay for and in my opinion this unit is excellent (

Love the flash. I've rented other flashes in order to make a determination on which one would be best for me and this is the flash that won for me. It's easy to use and has the features that are important for what my specialty is. Instead of taking my word for it rent one if you can and take it through its paces. This is the surest way of proving that it delivers.

Only one master is allowed to trigger slaves. If you are a wedding photographer and use two bodies you can't trigger a single slave with both bodies. You can do this with any other flash system on the market.

This flash is a greatly improved version of the previous flash HVL-F60M. The "full metal jacket" of a hot shot connector foot and the "lock & load" mechanisms alone are worth the price. Because it was on sale, I got it for the same price as the older version which I purchased over 4 years ago. The menu is more user-friendly and I can get to my favorite setting more quickly. Linking this flash is also easier, it links seamlessly with a second F60RM flash that I purchased last month, plus it's backwards compatible with my F60M flash.

great device, but lacks full HSS option when in upright vertical position. What a limiting factor for me, and other professionals, to be sure! Otherwise, all's as advertised. Thanks

Great flash! Fires fast and reliably TTL. Very powerful compared to my F32M model. Comes with multiple useful accessories. Wish I had the money for another.

I have two of the HVL-F60RM flashes which I use in combination with a HVL-45RM. They work well; however take a bit longer to setup than the Canon radio units I used with that system. You need to make changes on the camera and flash for remote use and if you decide to use a different unit as the commander, it requires a re-pairing. The swivel head is quite useful, just a bit weak in holding the flash head position. TTL works quite well, better than third party units I've used (Godox). Switches and controls superior to third party units. Wish OEM's would start making LiOn units, perhaps using the same battery as the camera. Overall, a good OEM quality radio flash unit.

I own several Flashpoint (Godox) flashes, two Flashpoint Zoom Li-on R2 TTL, and two of the Flashpoint eVOLV 200 TTL, and several triggers. For on-camera use the Sony is superior for me. I have some trouble with the Flashpoint maintaining correct connectivity in the hot shoe. No such issues with the Sony. I bought two of the HLV-F60RM units to add to my HVL-F45RM, so have a three light set-up with the Sony brand units. Several big "ifs." If you don't need cross compatibility with more powerful units and you can bear the price, I recommend the Sony units over the Flashpoint. I may eliminate the Zoom Li-on R2 TTL and use Flashpoint when more power needed. Use Sony on-camera and for events where higher power not required. I'll keep both systems and will probably add to both over time. Additional HLV-F60RM's and Xplor units (of which I do not yet own). Price "costs" Sony 1 star in my rating.

Not used much yet but an excellent feature-filled flashgun. Expensive and other third party guns will do an equal job.
The HVL-F60RM clip-on flash unit features high GN602 power, high-speed continuous shooting support and fast operation; ideal for advanced to professional users. Wireless radio commander/receiver functionality is included.
The high GN602 output and 220 times3 continuous emission of this flash unit provide plenty of power for various shooting.
Charge cycle time is 1.7 seconds*, or just 0.6 seconds* with the External Battery Adaptor (FA-EBA1) (optional) for continuous shooting. Proper flash synchronization is maintained during continuous shooting, minimizing flash misfires and ruined shots.
*When using Ni-MH batteries. Sony measurement conditions.
Quick Shift Bounce is Sony's original flash-head rotating mechanism, with the main unit tiltable from horizontal to vertical, allowing fast flash position changes. (90 ° left and right, 150 ° up/8 ° down)
An independent light output level button (LEVEL -/+ button) allows direct control of output or compensation for efficient workflow. Paired wireless flashes can also be easily adjusted via a LCD panel.
In addition to optical remote triggering, wireless radio triggering is supported. Wireless radio communication works reliably at distances of up to 98.43 feet* and even around obstacles or in bright conditions. A total of 15 flash units can be assigned to up to 5 groups5.
*Sony test conditions.
**In the group flash mode. Up to 3 groups in the TTL or manual flash mode.
Conventional optical triggering and wireless radio triggering cover a wide range of situations. A HVL-F60RM mounted on a compatible camera can be paired with off-camera units to provide reliable communication over long distances in conditions that would make optical communication difficult. Slow sync, rear-curtain sync and multi flash are supported.*
*Available with compatible devices only.
Up to 15 flash units can be assigned to up to 5 groups* for wireless flash control at distances of up to 98.43 feet.** Optional Wireless Radio Commander (FA-WRC1M) and Wireless Radio Receiver (FA-WRR1) units allow the HVL-F60RM to be used with Sony flash units that do not have built-in radio wireless capability, as well as the radio-capable HVL-F45RM.
*In the group flash mode. Up to 3 groups in the TTL or manual flash mode.
**Sony test conditions.
High-power flash with a maximum lighting output guide number of 197 feet / 60 Meter. Continuous shooting is possible with up to 220 emissions per set of batteries and a fast charge cycle time of 1.7 seconds, or just 0.6 seconds with optional External Battery Adaptor (FA-EBA1).
High-speed and wireless radio communication to support multi-flash photography. Equipped with Sony's own Quick Shift Bounce for natural horizontal and portrait bounced light.
