Really a great camera. Probably Sony's best entry level professional camera (you need simultaneous shooting). If you do video - do a slight upgrade to the FX2. The fan, shutter angle and timecode are worth the extra cost. I have been able to overheat this camera when shooting long moments in 4K. But this camera rocks. Beast in lowlight. When using it for video - I've repeatedly been surprised by how high I can crank the ISO. Even when shooting with an FX3 - ISO 12,800 often looked just as good on this camera. I've shot some dance footage at weddings that was very grainy, but usually it performs perfectly. Even the most lowlight photos will cleanup wonderfully. If you can afford the A7V go for it. The autofocus improvements alone are worth it. If not - this camera is worth every penny. I've used it for years and have loved every shoot I've done with it.

I purchased an A7IV in October of 2022 and in July of 2025 it gave me an error message. The IBIS system had apparently malfunctioned- whatever, no big deal, I get that happens sometimes. Purchased a new one in July 2025 to replace the one being repaired, six months later (literally January 2026) the NEW camera I bought in July is giving me the same error. I cannot get in contact with a Sony representative to get this issue resolved, and if i do, they tell me to turn it off and back on and replace the battery (which i've done). Nobody will take it seriously and give me a legitimate reason why, after six months, a brand new camera stops working. Never been dropped or bumped either, mind you. I can only use it on electronic shutter mode otherwise it stops working. Unacceptable. I spent almost $3k on this camera and it gave out after six months of not even heavy use?

After my fiancé bought this camera I started to get interested in photography. He bought his mostly for videos but also to do photography as well. I'm mostly interested in it for photography but love the option of video. Truly an awesome versatile camera and I've been having so much fun learning and taking photos! Has quickly become a passion!

So far a great upgrade from my a6500. The low light performance, auto focus and video quality are a world better.

I purchased the Sony A7 IV in October 2024, and after using it alongside my Sony A9, the conclusion is clear: the A7 IV is a less durable camera in almost every aspect. The main issue I encountered is the rear screen. Even with a protective glass applied from day one, the screen still ended up cracked under normal use. I never experienced this problem with the A9, which confirms that the A7 IV is built with weaker materials. For a camera at this price point, that is disappointing. Overall, the camera delivers on image quality and features, but its durability is not at the level required for demanding professional use. In photography, where equipment must withstand real working conditions, specifications on paper mean very little if the body cannot handle the workload. In conclusion, the Sony A7 IV offers strong specs, but the fragility of its screen and the overall lack of sturdiness compared to the A9 make it a poor choice for those who value long-term reliability and resistance.

I am very, very pleased with my purchase of the Sony A7 IV camera through Adorama. The last time I used a full frame camera was a Pentax 35mm film. The pictures are beautiful. I've only been viewing them on an iPad and I can't wait to do some enlargement prints. This is a great low-level professional level mirrorless, and it has tons of features, but the visible controls are traditional so I could charge up the battery and start shooting with great results. If you're willing to go a little over $2k, you won't regret it. Adorama is always great to deal with and worked with me on some camera/lenses trade-ins. If your thinking about going full frame, give this camera some consideration.

I recently upgraded from the Sony A7 III to the A7 IV, and I couldn't be happier! Sony has addressed every issue I had with the A7 III, making the A7 IV a substantial upgrade that is absolutely worth the extra cost. The difference between the two cameras is night and day. The improved autofocus system, higher resolution sensor, and the incredible dynamic range have completely elevated my photography experience. The user interface feels more intuitive, and the additional customization options make it easier to tailor the camera to my workflow. The A7 IV truly shines in both photo and video performance, offering a level of versatility that the A7 III just couldn't match. If you're on the fence between the A7 III and the A7 IV, I can't recommend the A7 IV enough. It's a no-brainer upgrade for anyone who wants the latest and greatest in Sony's lineup. A big shoutout to Adorama for their excellent service-my camera was shipped quickly and arrived in perfect condition. I've always had great experiences with them, and this was no exception.

I was ready to switch to a full-frame camera. I have used Sony gear since I started taking photos with my Minolta (Sony) cameras including a film camera purchased in 1978. I like the build quality of the cameras as well as the feel in my hands. I determined that the Sony A7IV would be sufficient for my personal needs. Yes, it doesn't have the bells and whistles of say the A7RV, but it is about $1000 less. The menu is easy to use once you get used to the layout. I do not use the camera for videos, but that is my preference. It does have several options for doing video should you be interested in that function. The camera can shoot at 10 fps. Again, Sony has faster cameras, which is not an issue for what I photograph. I have enjoyed the camera, and have not found it lacking in my style of photography.

Sony’s A7 series cameras serve as the jack-of-all-trades, perfect for content creators and hybrid shooters across all genres of photography and videography. The A7 IV is no stranger to this rule, offering impressive photo specs alongside pro-level video features. This camera builds on the ever-popular A7 III, offering even better video and photo quality, a greatly improved autofocus system, and a fully articulating LCD screen. When you need a true hybrid camera that leaves no stone unturned when it comes to features, the Sony A7 IV has you covered.

Sony has opted to use a new 33MP Exmor R BSI CMOS full-frame sensor with a back-illuminated design in the A7 IV. This sensor captures high-quality images with excellent color rendition, even in low-light conditions with 15 stops of dynamic range. When paired alongside the BIONZ XR Processor, high-speed shooting up to 10fps and a buffer of up to 828 consecutive RAW files with the use of a compatible CFexpress Type A card means that you’ll never miss the shot.

The A7 IV is truly a hybrid workhorse, with impressive video specs that let you capture both high-quality photos and videos in a single camera body. 4K60p recording in 10-Bit makes full use of the sensor, with 7K oversampling that provides a sharp, realistic-looking image. Improved body design allows for excellent heat dissipation, giving you continuous 4 K 60p video shooting for over 1 hour, and even longer at lower framerates. Numerous in-camera profiles can be used based on the desired output of your footage, including S-Cinetone for perfect skin tones that match the FX6 and FX9 Cinema Line cameras, and HLG, which offers a wide color gamut for ready-to-use content directly from the camera. For those who demand the absolute most from their footage, S-Log3 produces a video with over 15 stops of dynamic range and greater potential for color grading.

Consumers have long raved about Sony’s flagship autofocus system, which has been borrowed from cameras like the A1 and A9 and used here on the A7 IV. AI-based subject recognition ensures lightning-fast focus with very high accuracy, even allowing focus directly on a subject’s eye that can adjust as the subject enters and exits the frame. 94% of the image area is covered by these Fast Hybrid AF points, 759 to be exact. This autofocusing system can work in lighting conditions as low as -4 EV and performs extremely well in both photo and video applications.

The Electronic Viewfinder has been upgraded from its predecessor, now featuring a QVGA OLED Tru-Finder EVF with 3.68m-dot resolution, which is both sharper and clearer. The viewfinder supports up to 120 fps for smoother motion. For those vlogging or recording where the EVF isn’t accessible, a side-opening and tilting 3.0” 1.03m-dot screen is perfect for self-recording or using when the camera is below or above eye-level. On the body, a full-size HDMI port, a USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C port, and 3.5mm headphone and external microphone ports provide further versatility for attaching accessories.

5.5-stop 5-Axis SteadyShot Image Stabilization helps to keep images sharp as your shutter speed drops. For video specifically, an Active IS mode provides even more precise stabilization, offering smoother footage without a gimbal or other stabilizing device.
