HORRIBLE... I CAN'T BELIEVE SONY MAKE A POOR QUALITY CAMERA LIKE THIS ONE, THEY HAVE A LONG WAY TO GO TO MATCH CANON QUALITY. I KNOW THE SHAPE, STYLE, COMFORT ETC.. ARE OK BUT THE TRUE IS THAT THE MOST IMPORTANT PART OF ALL THIS IT'S THE QUALITY PICTURES AND VIDEOS AND THOSE TWO ARE HORRIBLE ON THIS CAMERA. THE SCREEN SIZE IT'S GOOD BUT 75% OF IT IT'S FOR DISPLAY INFO AND INDICATORS AND THE OTHER 25% IT'S FOR THE CAMERA VIEW. FOR ME THIS LOOKS LIKE ONE CHINA CHEAP CAMERA WITH THE SONY BRAND ON IT. WASTE OF MONEY AND I HAVE TO GO BACK TO THE STORE TO EXCHANGE MAYBE FOR THE FLIP OR OTHER CAMERA ON THE SIMILAR PRICE.

Bloggie Bogs down big time

Had this unit since May 2010. Image stabilization never or doesn't seem to work; Finally had it with this unit and called Sony Customer Support; nice person on line; was told that the I.S. ONLY works for the 640x480 (30P) and 1280x720 (30P) and NOT for the 1280x720 (60P) and also NOT the HD MODE 1920x1080 (30P). ANY videos that I've recorded with this camera have been SO shaky that it was almost unwatchable, AND I've always tried to hold the cam as steady as possible, using some sort of support if avb'l. Forget trying to use the zoom; the picture shakes even worse. PATHETIC, DON'T BUY THIS Model. I HOPE Sony markets a MP4 'something', later on, that is worth using. Sending mine back to Sony Repair. Do you think it's 'fixable', or just built this way? I've had many other cams (Panasonic, Sony, Canon GL1, GL2, etc) with Image Stabilazition, but this one is the worst......... Bought this item from Sam's Club, but it's been over 90 days and I can't return it. Waited too long... Sorry Sony...

Bloggie

Hate it but I guess I am stuck with it. I wish I had never bought it and I hope someone reads this review and does not make the same mistake I made in purchasing it. You have to be outside to use it as it doesn't work in room light settings. Zoom doesn't zoom in it only zooms out. When Zoomed all the way in its normal not closer. I hate it not working inside the most.

Bloggie

For example; the link that led me here, says the lens is 5x optical- 20x zoom. another seller says 4x digital only. Also; is it a web cam as the name webbie or bloggie implies?

Great Camcorder!

This camcorder is a very easy and fun to use one. The rotating lens makes it easy to shoot your friends or your self. The video quality is very nice and the photos are great! Overall this is a very good device for simple use (not high end) and also at a low price. Im very pleased with it

Great for most things.....

If you are looking to get more time for video, this is NOT for YOU. Most still camera's only give you about an hour footage anyway, so I don't get why people are comparing this to a full video camcorder. I do hope an update will come by to fix it, considering the packaging says different. But if your like me, and do a few minutes here and there of video at an amusement park, beach, or the mountains your fine. I do more photo's than video, and the size of this is perfect, considering I'm not comfortable lugging around a video camera anyway. I got it for the size, 360 view, and light video work, so it works for people like me.

Regarding recording time

Examine the manuals on this site for this camera. The Instruction sheet (4-172-852-11)says, "Continuous recording time 95 min.; Typical recording time 60 min. The Handbook (4-167-123-11) says, "Continuous shooting is possible for approximately 29 minutes." The box says? I suspect this documentation was derived from the MHS-PM1, which had the same limitation. So much for quality control.

Promising but not great

The feature list makes this seem like a really good deal. But when you get it and start using it you will find the the closest the camera will focus is about 5 or 6 feet, this makes many things impossible to record properly and certainly doesn't make sense to bother with HD. The 29 minute or 2GB (whichever comes first) recording limit is just stupid. This would have rated much higher if that limit was not present and if they bring out a close focus adapter to stick on the lens. As said still pictures are pretty much pointless unless you are outside with lots of light. I seriously hope that the recording time limit is fixed with the new (promised) firmware.

Not Great, but Not Awful

I got this camcorder to video my daughter, after comparing several other models, this one won out for features/price. I am disappointed however, by the maximum video limit of 30 minutes, the awful low light performance, the jitter and lack of image stabilizer or zoom in 1080p, the low viewing angle for the LCD and the narrow recording angle of the lens. I am delighted in the color quality and the sound recording quality. For brief videos outdoors its a good inexpensive camera, for videoing of events longer than 30 minutes its hard to recommend due to the file limit and having to start another video. I am hopeful a firmware revision may improve the low light performance by opening the aperture more or allowing manual light level control. For the price, its a good little camera, however when compared to its rivals it falls a little short despite its lengthy list of features. The still picture quality is atrocious and will require a tripod to take relatively poor 5MP images(not why i bought it).

Things to consider before buying the Bloggie

No. The MHS-PM5 cannot be used as a webcam. Also, be aware that it only records for 29 continuous minutes before turning itself off (regardless of the size of the memory stick being used, and of the battery status). Moreover, you cannot record while the bloggie is connected to your PC or laptop (can only record using the battery). Correction: The MHS-PM5 cannot be used as a USB webcam. However, if your PC or laptop has a A/V input (to connect the red, yellow, and white cables) then you can connect the camera to the computer using the supplied A/V cable to use the camera as a Webcam (in analog mode). Very few laptops have this ability (mine does not). However, some PC desktops do have this type of connection. Conclusion: the bloggie may or may not be adequate for you. You should decide if this camera's performance meets the minimum requirements of your intended use.

It's a pity! Only 30 minutes.

I bought this camera and only when I tried to record something i've noticed that the maximum size is limited in 30 minutes. If this is clear at the box I would not have purchased.

Nice for the price

Overall I like this device. It feels great in my hand and I love the fact that it turns on so quickly. I found a tripod to be very helpful, I guess the small size comes at a bit of a price in that way. I mostly use mine for indoor filming of sporting events. It seems to have a decent white balance but the focus is pretty slow. I replaced my Sony DV video camera with this device and its bigger bloggie brother. Now I can record from two angles to catch more of the action. The lens is small so don't expect it to work great in extreme low light situations like a restaurant. In these conditions it definitely looks grainy. I love the fact it uses memory cards and it is even better that both the Sony cards and the less expensive SD cards are options. I bought an extra battery so I can always have one handy to pop it. I wish the battery and memory card could be replaced without removing the device from the tripod. I recorded next to my friend who was using a Flip, my recording looked better and I had the option of swapping out my memory card - his Flip just filled up.

Not Sony quality

I was expecting more from this Sony product. Cheaply built, covers do not fit tight. No software to use 360 on a Mac. Not worth the extra to buy the kit that includes 360 lens. Zoom does not do much.

Good attempt...missing features

Kudos to Sony for allowing SD memory storage which is pretty much a standard war they lost instead of the over priced memory stick. This camera is a good attempt but is missing FLASH! Also focusing in low light conditions is very slow and not responsive. Digital Zoom is not a worthy feature to even mention on your specification page. No one uses digital zoom unless they are desparate. This camera has no opical abilities. Also why only record in mono and not stereo? It would be nice to see some samples of the 360 video online somewhere. My guess since there are no samples that it is just a gimmic and not a really useful feature due to the low output quality.

Big let Down

Having been a big fan of Sony cameras , this being my forth plus owning a few other sony products. I can't help but feeling let down by theMHS PM5. I have windows vista 32 bit. The PMB software does not even support it's own media file type. I have always been good at fixing all the bugs and working around all types of media, but this one takes the cake. I wished I had waited longer before I bought the Sony Bloggie MHS PM5 to hear others reveiws about this product. Sony rush in too soon on this product to get on the market. My Biggest let down is no support at all with this camera. Still a Sony fan but I'll be getting a Flip
