Overall the only flaw of this product (for me) is the fact that I can't use it on my Sony HDR-PJ780VE because of its "Balanced Optical SteadyShot" option as every time I would zoom or move my camera the edges of the lens would show up on tape therefore making the whole film less enjoyable.

I purchased this lens with my HDR-SR12 camera for indoor shooting and I am very pleased with it. This is a must-have add-on to any camcorder when shooting indoors (or outdoors when appropriate). I'm not sure of the exact percentage of field of view that this adds, but it's plenty. I can confidently shoot indoor events like birthday parties (one of the main purposes of a family camcorder), weddings, interviews, etc. I also works great for hunting and fishing shooting in close quarters (i.e. boats, hunting blinds or tree stands). The only complaints that I have are the physical size and weight of this lens (the reason for the 4/5 start rating on design). But just by the very nature of a wide angle lens, this could not really be overcome. Just be aware that this lens will block the built-in IR lights (at least on the HDR-SR12 model) and it will add some weight to your rig. All in all, though, this is the first accessory that I would buy for any camcorder.
