I tried all the macro lenses. This is not only the best price, but the best lens. The autofocus (from my test) was noticeably better than the Sony. Portraits are surprisingly sharp. That said - I take this lens out to grab a couple macro shots... and barely use it for anything else. A lot of the time I can get an extremely similar look with a telephoto lens that is much more useful.

This is the second lens I have ordered. Both seem to exhibit slow hunting focus even when set to limit. I think tamron needs to release a firmware update on this lens and maybe that would fix the focus hunting. I will probably return it and just purchase the Nikon 105 S. The older tamron 90 for F series was a fantastic lens. This one needs some improvements.

The lens seems to be quality built except for one thing. More on that later. The lens seems sharp and used for further distance seems sharp in corners. Closer up becomes soft. Macro tends to do that, so nothing bad there Focus is slow. I didn't expect a speed demon for up close shots but something just a little quicker would have been welcomed. The big fault I see so far - plastic filter threads. I use a Bolt Light ring that fits on the end of the lens. It has an attachment ( also plastic ) that screws into the filter threads to attach the flash. The two don't hold at all. It pops of without unscrewing it's 67mm to 67mm attachment. I am going to try putting on a 67-72mm step up ring and then attach the 72mm attachment and see if that holds. If not, this lens is going back and I'll be thinking more on the nikon 105.
