The Bessa L is a 35mm wide-angle viewfinder camera with significant appeal for snapshot and scenic photography. It offers a high level of manual simplicity, and features a focal plane shutter and a built-in TTL center-weighted meter. Compact in size, with a rugged diecast aluminum body, the Bessa L weighs just 11.2 oz. (320g).

The Bessa L features an L-screw lens mount, a mechanical 10-second timer, and an Xsynchro contact flash terminal synchronized at 1/125 seconds or less. Film speed range is ISO 25-1600 by 1/3 steps, and the camera features an exposure coupling range of EV 4-19.
