I did a lot of research for a baseplate for my a7SII. I needed to add a follow focus and a platform to attach my monitor and accessories for bigger shoots. There's tons of DSLR baseplates out there but many interfere with the battery door or have quirky quick release designs or require tools to attach. The Zacuto mini baseplate is a proportionately designed size and weight and is reliable. It's more money than the other options for sure, however I already have some Zacuto accessories and this attaches seamlessly. I'm able to attach the tripod plate to the bottom of the baseplate and remove the camera quickly and easily from the base. I can also attach my monitor with a small zamerican arm to the base to get the weight off the top which is great smoothing out tilting and slider shots. I might have gone with a cheaper option but I just couldn't find anything with better quality and reliability. I tried a Varavon baseplate to match my Varavon Zeuss cage, but it was just too wonky and the rod clamp levers are horrible.
