Kramer Electronics 841 Portable Computer Graphics Video Test Pattern Generator

The Kramer Electronics 841 Portable Computer Graphics Video Test Pattern Generator is a device for generating RGBHV signal patterns for VGA-enabled displays such as computer monitors, projectors and some high-definition TV sets. Part of the Kramer Electronics TOOLS line, the compact device requires only a third of a single rack space in a standard 19" rack, so three similar-sized devices can be installed side by side using the optional RK-3T rack adapter (not included). It includes an internal rechargeable battery that makes it suitable for field use. The 841 generates patterns for any display that has a VGA input.

With its 31 patterns of various colors, shapes and motions, the 841 can be used to test whether an LCD monitor's pixels all illuminate with the proper amounts of light, linearity and high-frequency response. It can generate patterns that help verify whether a projector's colors are correct and can aid in tuning the size, focus and keystone of the picture. Use it to test VGA cables by assessing the quality of the color patterns they send to the screen.

(A problem with displaying a specific color pattern, for instance, may indicate a flaw in an individual wire of the cable.) The 840H is also useful for testing the black level of a plasma monitor. Motion patterns aid in testing the refresh rates of LCD and plasma displays.
