My first unit had a bad disk, but Adorama was quick to exchange the whole thing for another (thank god they covered shipping back.. it's got some weight!) All seems well in the short time I've been using the 5big TB2. It's a bit louder than expected, but isn't too distracting. I suppose 5 disks get rather warm, so it's got to have a decent fan. Coming from an internal RAID 0 (2 disks) on a Mac Pro, read/write times appear to be much quicker with this dedicated hardware solution, versus Mac OS' software RAID. Thunderbolt 2 also screams. In addition to speed, there's the added security of RAID 5 as well. LaCie's RAID Manager software is okay. It's browser-based and can setup email notifications for system status, etc. All that aside, the real value of the unit will have to be time tested. Hopefully swapping a new disk in the event that one breaks down will be quick and easy with no data loss. It seems LaCie has a good track record for reliability, so let's hope this blue cyclops glows on forever! As a closing note, it's great to see LaCie included a TB cable. Most manufacturers do not and at this price range, I'm happy they included it.
