Steven A : Is this compatible with Chromebooks and their OS?Frank R : If the Chromebook has a Thunderbolt port (same physically in size as a USB Type-C connector), and if there are drivers written specifically for the Chromebook, it should work. The drive doesn't care about what it connects to, as long as it finds a compatible port and driver on the PC/iMac/Chromebook, et al. Refer to your Chromebook documentation and look for a Thunderbolt port. USB-C, although physically similar, is not a Thunderbolt port; so if your docs don't specifically say Thunderbolt, it won't work. If your docs indicate it does have a Thunderbolt port, just ensure that you have Thunderbolt drivers installed. If not, search Google for them. After installation, your LaCie drive should be all set.

USB-C Ports Fail

I purchased two of these 4TB drives in 2024. The female USB-C port on both drives failed within 6-months of purchase. For reference, they sat on my desk in a 3-D printed holder with minimal movement to plug/unplug the cables during use. These are not the same "rugged" hard drives LaCie used to make, and I would not recommend them.

Light, fast, durable

Compact and light enough to carry on my travels with good capacity. When I am on location recording 4k footage and need to backup immediately, I bring this. Works well as a scratch disk editing in Premier Pro, as well.

Missing adaptor cable in the box.

I was excited, but to my surprise, it did not come with the USB adaptor as it says in the description. It arrived today, 8/24/22. Yes, I checked the small pocket area where the cable is secured inside the box. I heard great things about it, but now I can't use it because I only have the USB-C cable. I haven't yet upgraded to a computer that uses USB-C.

More Storage

I had been using a Toshiba 1TB for several years and decided it was time to replace it before it got a chance to stop working on me. I went with the Lacie Rugged 2TB after reading several reviews online. So far it's been a great storage device to help clear up some extra space on my PC. I am primarily used the drive to store the majority of my photos that I've taken over the past 6 years. I do a good amount of photography and raw files can really take up space quickly.

No muss or fuss - It just works

Received this a part of a Lacie raid promotion and am very pleased with the performance. Of course not as fast as an SSD but awesome to take a backup copy of Time Machine for my MacBook Pro offsite. Remember it is not backed up unless it is in three places and one of those is offsite.

Solid and fast.

Certainly fast enough for my work-which is saying something since I run a minimum of 128 tracks of multitrack audio through ProTools plus video on the regular. It may be bulkier than some but feels solid and steady in use.

Overall the hard drive is solid. I have not experienced any technical issues yet. I don't know why manufacturers are unable to make the cord connection tighter, though. Every single external I have is so delicate and can't be moved while in operation. You wiggle it even just a tad and the disk becomes unmounted.
