I brought 2 HDDs on holiday discounts. Overall, I like these drives. These drives cost about 35% more than the typical WD or Seagate external portable drives having the same storage capacity. I don't notice any differences in performance or technology enhancement between the LaCie as compared to WD or Seagate. In summary, the LaCie mobile drives are: 1) It feels solid. It has an Aluminum body and weights slightly more than a typical plastic body HDDs. It does has an aesthetic look of silvery and slim body, diamond corner cut. 2) The drive spins very silent and not noticeable vibration. 3) Transfer speed - I read other reviews that these drives are slower than others. In my observation, they are about the same speed as other drives using USB 3.0 or USB 3.1. 3) Initiating time - this is the time when you plug the drive into the laptop and be recognized by the operating system - these drives are slower than other drives by about 2 seconds. It is not bothersome for me. 4) The drive lays flat on the bottom with no rubber feet. To prevent it from sliding, I added a silicone case around the drive (see picture). The silicone case also prevents helps to reduce shock or bumps.

No hesitation on the part of the equipment to do its job. Reformatting to Apple format toke no time at all. Unit speed and size (digitally & physically) are just right and with no moving parts. When my raid unit on my other machine starts down, I?ll replace it with these.

Lacie is still the best SSD options on the market, and this model does not disappoint. However, Adorama’s photo is stretched out horizontally to appear thinner than the actual unit. Deceiving!

It was "Plug and Play", so to speak. I ordered a unit for my Macbook Pro. It recognized the unit the moment it was connected and I was able to begin loading files for storage. I wish they were all that easy with a Mac.

I started using this sized external HD for my backups over two years ago. Started with three then two years later bought four more recently. I know I should mix up brands to safe guard against any specific model defect but these have proven very convenient compared to the much larger bulkier drives that I decided to stay with what works for me.
