Extremely loud and annoying. Sounds like it's crunching all the time. It's disruptive from across a large room when watching a movie on the television. I unplug it because it's so loud and irritating. I don't know if that's how this type of device is always, but I can't stand the thing and unplug it to stop the incessant noise.

The LaCie 2big Dock has been a great addition to my workflow. My use case is to offload my audio/video projects that are not currently being worked on and reserve my Macbook Pro SSD for active projects. This approach is working very well and moving projects to/from the LaCie and Macbook is reasonably quick with the Thunderbolt connection. I think you could edit video directly from the LaCie but it will be slower than SSD. The security of the RAID back up is great. I am using the portable USB to periodically copy my Time Machine and store offsite. While the 2big Dock not any louder than other drives you will be able to hear it on your desktop so mounting under the desk may be an option if it is of concern. With my personal workflow I simply don't turn it on if I need absolute silence for audio editing.

Does the storage job well, but has few annoying bugs that shouldn?t exist at this price point. First thing is this drive will not completely sleep when using the TB3 connection, it does sound like the drives spin down at some point but the fan is still going, and the blue light is on constant. When plugged in using USB-C the drive will go into to sleep where everything is off, with the power light flashing every few seconds. Why a pay a premium for TB3 when the features are buggy. The fan is significantly louder than the old TB2 2Big drive, seems excessive since drives don?t really require a large amount of cooling. Examining the case, it is significantly smaller than the old TB2 version of this drive, and doesn?t seem to have adequate flow path for air to cool the drives anyway. This could also be another reason why the fan ended up being so much loader than the last version, as it?s trying to force air through a very restrictive flow path. It would be nice to have a settings option to disable the flashing blue light when the drive is sleeping. Having a constant flashing blue light is annoying if this drive is in the same room you sleep in, and also really unnecessary, as the drive will wake up when you wake your computer the blue power light will turn on solid and thus let you know it?s working at that point. Many routers have this feature. A premium product that needs some more thought from its designer.

I bought this to simplify a rats nest of wires to multiple disks and CF and SD card readers and reduce the clutter on my desk. It does that very well. I have the two disks configured as a JBOD because I needed two separate volumes for storing different kinds of photo work. I use an automatic backup program to backup these volumes to a larger separate single disk backup drive, which I think is safer than RAID anyway. It was easy to set this unit up on my Mac and it?s been fast and reliable. I also like the fact that if I have to flee from one of the many fires raging in the west right now I just have to disconnect one data cable and the power and I can carry it away safely. I recommend this product.

Plug and play with my MacBook. I did change it to Raid1, which took all of 5 seconds!! Set up Time Machine and now I have a ton of room for my backups. I little noisy due to the fan, but Raid SSD was way too expensive for just backups, in my opinion. The free rugged USB-C drive was a great freebie, as I move between two locations and now I have Time Machine running at both.

Set up was a breeze. Reset it to operate as mirror image. Running like a well oiled clock. Very little noise. Best purchase for photo backup after much research.

works well. I use a PC and I do video and photo editing. I formatted the drive as exfat and set it up as RAID 0. It's connected via a usb 3.1 gen 2 port. I bought a 6ft type c cable on Amazon because the one supplied is very short. My transfer (write) speeds are between 120MBps and 230MBps and I'm editing 4k video in Premiere and After Effects. - the transfer speeds are just what I observed on windows explorer while transferring footage. I saw and read some reviews about it being noisy, but that has not been my experience. I don't even notice it even during read/write. So far, so good.

I purchased the LaCie as a backup solution for my laptop. I also liked the I could run in Raid 1 so I had redundancy in case of a hard drive failure. Had issues downloading the RAID MGMT software. Used LaCie’s chat help and quickly solver my issue. Quick set up, quiet and looks pretty cool on my desk. Adorama was quick to ship and the LaCie arrive on the first day of the advertised delivery window. As usual a quality buying experience with Adorama. If looking for a back up solution stop shopping and buy now.

Pricy but worth it if you have lots of important files you need to keep safe. Also love that I can keep my computer plugged in through this.

Works as expected, even though far from being quiet. Even when unplugged from computer enclosure makes high pitch sound, very annoying and can only be fixed by unplugging AC power. Also powering computer with this drive is pretty useless, MacBook Pro under heavy load needs more power than this hard drive can provide.

Awesome so far! I had been looking at this RAID for quite some time and finally but the bullet when I saw this great deal from Adorama. The RAID is exactly what I had hoped for and needed, providing adequate storage for my graphic design business while also providing additional useful ports. The design of the LaCie products has always appealed to me so I was pleased with the aesthetics upon unboxing, and the big blue light on the 2Big is a pretty cool touch. The RAID is actually heavier than I expected it to be but I’m happier that it’s heavier; I am less worried about it getting accidentally yanked off my desk or shelf since it’s got some heft to keep it in place. Definitely recommend both of these products!

So far so good! I love that I can write to one disk and have it automatically backup without me having to do anything after setting it up! As a photographer that is so essential! The only thing I didn't notice is that this is thunderbolt 3 and my computer has thunderbolt 2 so I had to purchase adapters to make this work. Oversight on my part! Other than that I love it so far! The travel lacie drive is great too and so convenient!!

Good and fast. The extra card slots and ports come in very handy. I use this on RAID 1 to provide back-up. Would be blazing fast on RAID 0. Seems solid. Generally quiet, but does make noise when it spins up.

Have had it for a week. Came safely packaged. Easy to set up. Software was not hard to follow. Suggest doing some reading before hand to make your own decision about which RAID set up you want to use 0,1 etc. and how that affects the amount of storage vs. back up. So far so good. We’ll see how it does over time.

Thunderbolt three and worth it! Much smaller than my d2 drive. Dual NAS drives should bring a higher level of reliability and liking the speed very much.

I would definitely recommend this for the size of the drive and the price. It’s a little loud but maybe they all are.

Without question one of the best RAID arrays on the market today. I have mine set up with RAID 1 instead of the RAID 0 it comes preconfigured with and it is still lightning fast for photo editing on Lightroom and Photoshop! The built-in dock has made my workflow faster and my desk less cluttered. My only wish is that the supplied thunderbolt cable was longer...
