The 2TB drive was easy to setup as as a Time Machine drive for a MB Pro with Thunderbolt. The drive is only Thunderbolt 1. It is not clear if the USB-C connector is Gen 1 or 2. Overall happy with the unit.

This drive failed after less than 6 months of moderate use. I use the drive as the primary store for my photos and paid the premium price thinking that the drive would have high reliability in addition to being a rugged unit. Fortunately I do multiple backups to other external drives (much less expensive than this LaCie) so no data loss. My advice, only consider this drive if you need ruggedized drives... And check out other manufacturers. My biggest complaint is that Seagate replaced this drive with a "refurbished" unit. I have no idea what that means given todays drive technology. Back in the 80's we used to rebuild disk drives but they were massive 162 pound units where all the components were accessible and replaceable. I would have been much happier with Seagate had the just shipped me a new drive given the moderate use and short time I had it. In the future, I will stick with the less expensive external drives.

The memory is big (5TB). It has optional faster ports for future use. It works now with with my thunderbolt ports. It's up and working.

Has the older Thunderbolt 1-2 connector built in (attached on a cord to the drive) which I needed for my older computer to transfer "from". Also had the connection and the cable for the new Thunderbolt 3 (USB C), which is the only kind of port my new computer had for transferring "to". Could use only one connection at a time though. If I find the need, I will definitely purchase another.

I had to format the drive before I could use it in time machine on a mac. it's very fast on USB c and Thunderbolt ports. Well worth the price.

I bought this with the intention of upgrading my computer in the next year or so and this drive has the ports to connect both with my current laptop and any future computer I may purchase. It's fast and has drop protection as well.

This ruggedized hard drive came with all the necessary cabling to work with USB-C and USB-3.0 connections. It fits right into my workflow by attaching it to my laptop when shooting in the studio without loss of performance. Its capacity allows me to carry multiple years worth of shots with me so that I can work on the road when needing to composite images. It seamlessly interfaces with Lightroom and Photoshop.

I was using a run of the mill 4TB USB 3 drive for a nearline archive that I travel with. It was slow, but not a huge deal. But then the connector started to get a little loose, and the drive would mysteriously unmount at random times. I thought it was time to get a little more serious. This drive is great. Almost 3 times faster than the other drive, and built in TB is great. And if that cable ever shows wear, there is a USB-C port and included cables to switch over to. Also, the 5TB model is only $20 more than the 4TB one. Overall, I am very satisfied.

Fast, quiet and compact. At 5TB of storage, I can take years of files with me anywhere I go. I own many Lacie drives and have never had a failure. Why would anybody buy something else?
