H Amos G : I'm trying to understand.  Is this a self-contained, battery powered unit that will l this back up SD cards in the field without a computer?DREW R : The drive will be powered when plugged into USB C thunderbolt port. But if it plugged into just a regular USB C or USB A port, than it still requires AC power plug. On my 2019 MacBook Pro, I’m able to have two of these LaCie drives plugged in on-set without AC power and run dual backups. But if I have anything else requiring power plugged in to my computer than one of them shuts off because it’s not getting enough juice.CONNIE C : No, this unit requires connection to your laptop or desktop. I use mine to download images to my laptop after a day of photography. Works awesome.

The Rugged Raid is the Truth!

The Rugged Raid delivers on being one of the most treasured tools in my arsenal. Right now, I?m only rocking one memory card and this makes life easier when collecting videos on the go with the memory card reader. As an Apple user, the added USB-c cord makes uploading a breeze. I?ve done 4 projects so far and I?ve only filled up 1/16 of the capacity of this awesome HDD. No downside with this purchase? It even has its own internal software interface! Perfect!

Excellent rugged external drive--but sometimes requires external power source.

I really like how rugged the LaCie 4TB Rugged Raid Pro is. After losing 2 less sturdy external drives I want something that will last. The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is that my laptop isn't something-or-else and thus I need to use an external power source. LaCie might want to explain this to buyers.
