This is an inexpensive lab mic, perfect for catching things like narration audio in videos. Audio quality is good - not quite as good as a studio mic, but I wasn't really expecting that performance level. Spoken audio is clear, and the reviews of my work using this mic have been consistently great, so I'm happy! My only gripe is that the cable is only about one meter. I'm recording into an iPhone on a tripod a few meters away, so that didn't cut it. The solution is an inexpensive TRRS extension cable - I clip the connector to my belt loop and everything's fine. As for the mic itself, I couldn't be happier!

Pretty great sound. The clarity is crisp. The inly thing one should avoid with any lavalier is not placing it beneath shirts. The shirt does cause scuffling sounds regardless of the foam cover.

Easily the most painless way to get clear audio out of people speaking on any indie or budget conscious pro level production. Ideal for location interviews and web series productions.

mic great, Rode not so great with product support that is actually useful. I have to buy another mic, plan to buy from anyone but Rode.

It's okay. The cover for the mic came off on day 1, but the quality seems good. I use it with the zoom h1.

Not like commercial and other people's review. Almost most smartphone can record better than this.

I use both the RODE SmartLav+ and Shure MVL to capture interview audio for videos, and this mic performs well. The sound quality is excellent, and the cable long enough to comfortably make it to an iPhone or HN1 in the subject's pocket. The clip mechanism on the RODE holds the mic much more securely than the Shure version, which I like, though the release lever sticks out further, which can make this slightly more difficult to conceal. I have not used the RODE iOS, but this mic has no issues recording into the Shure MOTIV app. Note that in order to use this mic with a field recorder (such as an HN1 or similar), you must purchase a separate adapter. Overall, I think this is a great mic for the price. Add the 4-pin to 3-pin adapter and you have a very capable lav mic for a variety of interview settings.

Use this for Facebook live and other social media. It works great and the audio is so much clearer that using the default mic on the phone.

The smartLav+ is a broadcast-grade wearable microphone designed for use in a wide range of film, television and broadcast scenarios, or wherever broadcast quality audio is required in a discreet, portable format without the complication and expense of additional wireless equipment.
With the smartLav+ the user simply mounts the microphone on the talent, connects it to a smartphone or tablet headset jack and records via the Rode Reporter App for iOS, or any other audio app of their choice. RODE Rec turns the user's iOS device into a fully-featured field recorder, with a wide range of equalisation presets to suit various recording situations, in addition to professional editing functions and the ability to publish to SoundCloud and Dropbox direct from the app.
By employing a professional quality omni-directional condenser capsule the smartLav+ picks up sound equally from all around the microphone, allowing for versatility when mounting and ensuring a high degree of user-friendly operation.
A foam pop shield is supplied to minimise wind noise and vocal plosives (hard ‘b’, ‘t’ and ‘p’ sounds), as well as a durable mounting clip with in-built cable management. Its 1.2m (4 ft) long Kevlar reinforced cable ensures that you never stretch or snap your microphone under normal usage conditions.
