If you can live with a manual focus lens, this 105mm portrait lens is really incredible. It's heavy and feels like a high quality piece of kit. Images are sharp edge-to-edge and the added reach really allows for some cool perspectives. I use this lens a lot for casual daily shooting. It works well for people, architecture, and even landscapes. Love it and don't regret this purchase a bit.

I am in love with this lens, I purchased it mainly for taking photos of custom hot rods, but it's also great for portraits, it has two aperture rings which allows you to manipulate your bokeh, it's also very sharp!, I haven't found any chromatic aberrations yet (awesome!) the only con for me is that it doesn't handle direct sunlight very well, and another con for some, is that it has no auto focus, which I don't mind, because when I started this hobby, there was no such thing as auto focus. This is a lens for those photographers that like to take their time to get everything right!. You get the performance of a very expensive prime lens at a very reasonable price!

Great sharp lens IF you can live without autofocus. The two aperture rings, one for cinema and one for stills (?), are kind of funky.

The new Laowa 105mm f/2 Smooth Trans Focus Lens incorporates a unique optical design with an apodization (APD) element next to the aperture. The APD element resembles the function of an ND filter which becomes thicker towards the perimeter, gradually reducing the amount of light transmission towards the periphery to produce a soft, natural and beautifully diffused out-of-focus rendition (or called bokeh).
E-Mount Lens/Full-Frame Format
Aperture Range: f/2 (T3.2) to f/22
One Apodization Element for Smooth Bokeh
Three Low Dispersion Elements
One Extra Refractive Index Element
Manual Focus and Manual Aperture Ring
Dual Diaphragms: 8- and 14-Blades
The Bokeh Dreamer
An apodization element is incorporated to produce images with smooth and creamy bokeh while maintaining excellent sharpness at the focal plane.
Two Diaphragms
The new Laowa 105mm f/2 Smooth Trans Focus Lens offers two separate diaphragms. The stepless 14-bladed perfectly circular aperture, in conjunction with the apodization element gives this lens the ability to produce smooth and pleasing bokeh. It is also useful for videographers to control the amount of light passes through the lens. The 8-bladed aperture is to determine the effective aperture opening (f-number) and the depth-of-field formed.
Complex Optical Structure
The lens houses with 11 elements in 8 groups with 1 piece of High Refractive elements, 3 pieces of Low Dispersion elements and 1pc of Apodisation element. This optical design is proven to deliver images with extreme sharpness and limit the chromatic abberations at its lowest. The enclosure of the lens is made of metal to strengthen its durability.
