Hands down, one of the best purchases I've ever made for my students. Do yourself a service and get one. The only problem is that they are ALWAYS on backorder. I think they must make each one to order. (This is not a complaint about ADORAMA. They are amazing)

While capturing the essence of cinematic grandeur, the Laowa Nanomorph 35mm T2.4 1.5x S35 Anamorphic Lens for DJI DL, with its blue flare characteristic, stands as a testament to innovation in filmmaking technology. This lens, acclaimed as the world's smallest anamorphic lens designed for Super35 sensors, is a marvel of engineering, weighing a mere 12.6 oz (360g) and measuring just 3.39 inches (86mm) in length. Its compact stature belies its powerful capabilities, making it an ideal choice for a variety of shooting conditions, from handheld to aerial cinematography with drones.
The Laowa Nanomorph lens boasts a front anamorphic design, ensuring a constant 1.5x squeeze across the entire focusing range. This feature is critical for maintaining the integrity of the widescreen anamorphic aesthetic, which is characterized by a 2.66:1 aspect ratio on a 16:9 sensor after de-squeeze. The result is a more pronounced anamorphic look compared to lenses with a 1.33x squeeze, offering filmmakers a broader horizontal field of view and a shallower depth of field than spherical lenses.
Cinematic visuals are further enhanced by the lens's ability to produce stretched oval bokeh, adding an artistic touch to the image. The 1.5x squeeze ratio not only gives a stronger sense of compression but also accentuates the bokeh's oval shape, contributing to the film's visual storytelling.
One of the standout features of the Laowa Nanomorph is its remarkably short close focusing distance of 23.6 inches, which is uncommon among anamorphic lenses due to optical design constraints. This capability allows filmmakers to capture close-up shots with a much shallower depth of field and more pronounced bokeh, offering greater flexibility in framing and composition.
The lens also addresses the issue of anamorphic mumps, a distortion that can occur at close focusing distances with some anamorphic lenses. Laowa's innovative design ensures a constant squeeze ratio at all focusing distances, eliminating this problem and maintaining the subject's true proportions throughout the focus range.
Laowa's patented anamorphic structure is a game-changer, placing the anamorphic elements behind the spherical components and the focusing groups. This arrangement allows for a smaller anamorphic block, contributing to the lens's compact size without compromising on image quality or squeeze ratio consistency.
The Nanomorph lens features a user-interchangeable mount system, providing versatility for filmmakers working with different camera systems. Additionally, the unified gear position streamlines the lens change process, allowing for quick swaps without the need to readjust focus gears. The lens comes equipped with a 55mm filter thread, enabling the use of screw-in filters for added creative control.
Both the aperture and focus rings are fitted with industry-standard 0.8 mod gears, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of follow focus systems. A flange adjustment feature allows filmmakers to fine-tune the back focus with a 0.9mm hex key (included), ensuring accurate and aligned scale readings after switching cameras.
Finally, the Laowa Nanomorph lens includes dual scale markings in both imperial and metric units, catering to the preferences of diverse production crews. This attention to detail solidifies the lens's position as a versatile and indispensable tool for filmmakers seeking to infuse their work with the unmistakable charm of anamorphic cinematography.
