Just what I wanted

High quality materials, lightweight, exactly what I was looking for. The screw/unscrew locking takes a little more time to expand the legs than on a snap/unsnap-style on my old Amazon tripod but the quality on this one makes that an ok tradeoff. Weight on this tripod us ideal for the payload capacity.

call it 4.5 stars

The finish and quality of this Vanguard VEO 2 264CB are pretty good. I have not taken it far afield yet, but I think it is the right combination of size, weight and sturdiness, for my purposes. I do some short- to moderate-distance hiking -- a few miles, not tens of miles -- sometimes with a little climbing. I often carry 40 pounds of camera gear into state parks. The VEO 2 replaces a sub-$100 aluminum tripod with a non-removable pan head. The removable ball head supplied with this tripod is pretty decent; I like the fact that it will pan, and has an adjustable friction control, and bubble level. Beware over tightening the quick release (QR) knob, as the rubber ring around it is not 100% affixed to the metal, and will twist, so if you get it too tight, loosening it can be difficult and hard on the fingers. I had over tightened it upon my first use of it, fearing it might drop my camera and lens, but my fears were unfounded and my excess caution only made it that much harder to unscrew. Same thing with the friction control knob, but there's never any reason to over tighten that knob. The tripod provides a stable platform for my 5 to 6 pounds of gear (camera, 70-200/2.8 lens, remote radio trigger/receiver, etc.). I used it with a 70-200mm lens to take some photos of comet C/2020 F3 NEOWISE, with 6-second exposures, and for steadiness, with the same gear and same settings, it easily outperformed my old aluminum tripod. The VEO 2 did not have the vibration issues from 'mirror slap' that I saw with the aluminum tripod (bearing in mind, again, the aluminum one was quite cheap). However, I do find that there is some flex at the joints of this VEO 2, with the legs locked, right where the twist locks are located. It holds its position and height, but the slight flex was a surprise to me. It is not the carbon-fiber that is flexing, of course, but the locks or joints between the carbon-fiber leg segments. That flex is only noticeable when the legs are extended to at least the second set of locks, and only if you lean into the tripod or press on it as you try to get it settled in a spot on the ground. It is not a 'deal breaker' for me, because it does not affect the performance of the tripod when taking photos, but I would not call it rock solid. Otherwise it is very sturdy. For the price (particularly when bought on sale), the features are great, and the weight is just right for carrying on short- to moderate- hikes. I think I could climb a mountain with it, but only if I left behind some of my other gear, and it won't quite fit inside a backpack, so it is probably not for extreme mountaineering photographers. For the price, I am very happy with it.

Don’t waste your money .

Could have been a great tripods . However , it can not be taken apart for cleaning . That’s a no go for me as I live by the coast and I frequently have my tripod in the salt water during my outings.

Light and sturdy travel tripod.

For a recent international trip I was wanting to lighten my load from a 6+ lb. tripod as I was going to do a fair amount of hiking. This 3 lb tripod was perfect. It states it has a 17 LB capacity but it seemed a little "sketchy" with a Canon 7 d and 100-400 zoom. I pushed into the dirt and came up with some steady shots.

Huge improvement over my earlier model.

This tripod is fantastic. It replaces a much earlier version that I loved, lost to hurricane Dorian. The improvements on this one are incredible. The ease of use has been streamlined so it can be set up in seconds, but the great news is it is still so light and beautifully crafted. Highly recommend.

Great product

Great product, easy to use and sturdy. The most appealing thing about this product is that there are no levers to lock the mounting bracket. It uses a screw in knob to secure the mounting bracket in place. Product as always arrived in a timely fashion and in excellent condition.

Sturdy and solid lightweight travel tripod

I purchased it recently and tried it with a few different lenses. I use Nikon D750, and the heaviest lens I tried it with was Sigma 150-600 C, which weighs around 5 pounds. At a total load weight of about 7 pounds and with legs fully extended, this tripod felt really sturdy and allowed me to take really sharp photos at 600mm. The ball head works really well, and the extra screw that allows to control the friction on the ball movement is quite convenient. At 2.8 pounds this tripod is pretty manageable for me as a travel tripod. The twist locks on the legs work really well and are convenient to use.

Vanguard carbon tripod

Sturdy, relatively light and quick to set up. Only downside is that it is a bit heavier and bulkier than I expected for a “travel” tripod.

Light and Compact, yet capable

Title says it. I like the light weight and compact size when folded. My D7000 with kit lens was stable. I especially liked I can use it to take panoramas. I've only used it a few times so far.
