Questions & Answers

Shopper : I have a 2016 Honda Pilot w/ auto start/stop; there is a constant on switched power line available, but when the auto start kicks in, the voltage drops to about 9V then comes back up to 12V. Will this cause a problem with the camera?RADILIO O : I have a Ford Escape with Start/Stop technology also and I have not had any issues with the camera turning off while the car is in the "stop" mode. My vehicle does turn back on by itself if it has been in the "stop" mode too long (it uses many factors to determine if to turn back on by itself), but while it has been in the "stop" mode the camera has never turned off. I have mine hardwired to the fuse box using a fuse that works with the ignition. The GPS module does have some issues on this model and it tends to restart on its own, I think it's due to the connection with the pins. If you plug the power cable directly into the camera it will fix this issue. Not an ideal thing to have to do when you paid for a working item but I'd rather not deal with the headaches of customer service from VIOFO or other warranty issues.NAGA YUGANDHAR V : I am no expert here .. but will tell my few thoughts . The camera comes with a cigarette lighter slot power adaptor which has a controlled voltage and power rating , so it should control the amount of power being Supplied to the camera . So I see no issue here. I think the voltage rating on the camera is 5v . Personally I don't think this should be an issue at all .Naveen S : You may encounter some screen flicker when veiewing the monitor on the device itself. Additionally, some models of this dash cam (mine included) tend to restart at random intervals which is quite annoying. The workaround that seems to be paying dividends for me (so far) is the plug the USB cord directly into the camera device, as opposed to the GPS mount.Richard C : Hi, The drop in voltage followed by recovery to 12V may cause the camera's firmware to become corrupted. Small Spikes in voltage, may not be detected by a meter/gauge, can be a problelm. My camera is connected to constant on accessory socked (Ford Fusion) and my firmware became corrupted. I guess due to the starting of the car one morning. I had to removed he camera is reinstall the firmware from VioFo website. The camera is working now but I always pull the plug out of the accessory socket when I exit my car and after I start the car I plug it back in. My recommendation is to install an inline switch on your Viofo power line or make sure you shut the camera off when starting the car or not in use. By the Way - the camera is great and I am very satisfied with its performance. RtCBISWAJIT J : I dont think so. I normally plug out the camera when not in use just to make sure it does not drain battery when not in use. So you can follow the same and plug in the camera after your car is started.WILLIE C : My 2015 Toyota has the same problem with the power cutting out when cranking over the engine. The A119S has enough energy to stay on during most starts, but if it does lose power then it is smart enough to cycle back on. Hope this helps.
Shopper : Why Did You Choose This?Alex E : Already have three and they work well. Need one more.

Not just install and forget about it.

I can't compare it to other cameras. However I may say that this one means another thing to deal with on everyday use. It is just not install and forget about it. Setting it up is not trivial. It requires many tests to check and figure it out what works in your case (There are a couple of useful videos on Youtube made by others that may help instead of the standard documentation by the manufacturer). Recently the unit seems to be restarting and I suspect that there is something faulty with its original 12V lighter power source. Now I have to remember to check if it is working everytime I start my car or deal with its occasional rebooting chime while driving.

Decent quality but image is very compressed

The camera is nice and works well. I had it running 24/7 in my car on a constant 12v circuit using the hardwire kit. The install was fun and easy, but the 1080p 60f image is a bit compressed. You can see some micro blocking happening but its still good for capturing any incident in front of your car.

GPS module and capacitor issue

The video quality is pretty good, but every time I turned off the camera all settings are reset.

No longer powers on

Stopped working after about a month. It will no longer power on. Tried powering through GPS module and also directly. My car is usually parked in a parking garage and structure, so I don't believe it overheated. Disappointing product.

Good sensor in the camera but questionable build quality

The camera works really well. I was surprised to be able to read the license plates clearly during the day and night (once you are within a few feet of the car in front). The setup is really easy and simple and it only took a few minutes. I even purchased the Spy Tech wiring kit with a fuse tap and wired it to the fuse box. So why 3 stars? On day 35, after a long drive, I noticed that the power light on the camera was OFF. I tried to power the camera back ON manually but it didn't work. Once I got home, I opened the fuse box and rechecked all the wiring to make sure something didn't come loose. After finagling with it for about an hour, I finally disconnected the cable going to the GPS mount and connected it directly to the camera....boom...the camera turns back ON. I figured it must either be the GPS mount or the connection point between the camera and the GPS mount. I immediately emailed Viofo (since I was past the return policy), and Viofo responded this morning stating that this is known issue and I need to power the camera by plugging in the USB directly into the camera instead of the GPS mount and everything should work (even though it wasn't originally designed that way). I am hoping this is in fact the case (will test and update). The only downside is that I had wired the car to hide all the cable and now there's a USB cable sticking out and wired into the camera on the side. I really expected a better quality camera. I am now wondering if this will withstand the test of time (including the extreme temperatures)!!!

Both dashcams stopped working when plugged into the GPS module..

I ordered 2 cameras for each of my family cars. Both of them developed the same problem after a few days of using them. They are caught in a constant reboot loop when plugged into the GPS module. The problem goes away if it's plugged into the side of the camera itself. Since I paid to have GPS on the camera, it does me no good to not use the GPS. I think the recent batch has bad GPS modules.

Nice little dashcam

I was searching for a new dashcam to replace my old blackvue DR400 HDII after it died a month ago. I did not have any prior experience with Viofo product but was willing to give it a try. After reading some reviews and feedbacks, I decided to move forward with A119S-G, given that it has 60fps, capacitors and GPS feature. Feedback? I am very impressed. Not only it was easy to install, but also provided excellent video quality with accurate GPS tracking. I'd definitely recommend this product for those who are also in need of a dashcam with good C/P.

Great camera!

The initial settings of the camera (60fps) made reading license plates really blurry, but it shows its full potential after changing the recording to 30fps. Great camera overall! Highly recommended.

Very Sharp Night Video and Easy To Use

After seeing reckless driving in LA almost every time I take the car out I decided time to get a dashcam. What I like is ability to purchase additional GPS mount to use in my other vehicles. simply swap the unit that clips in and out in a few seconds. The clip is secure so the device won't fall off the windshield. The video is as good as my actioncams... I considered using an actioncam as a dashcam but the dashcam starts recording immediately and turns off with the ignition on/off. The features of dashcams are fairly standard but what makes this one superb is the Sony sensor. You can record 60p. There are other features such as lane drift, and other collision warning but I don't use them. The USB cable is an older USB micro B that is 11.5' long so it works in my Honda Accord and was able to only use two of the clips to hold steady. I first saw this from a YouTuber and yes you can compare the hundreds of models available but this is a good choice. It seems to be out of stock most of the time and that tells me it is a hot seller.
