Vanguard tripod and pan head
Very sturdy. Pan head is great, smooth. Set up instructions are hard to follow drawings and not clear.
Overall very good.

Stable, good leveling vials, good controls, good leg locks
The top of the QR, where your camera will sit is 69 1/2 inches. I like the stability, the level vials and the smoothness in panning. The QR is a little difficult to remove, but that has the benefit of not accidentally releasing it and dropping your camera. They have a switch that allows you either to freeze the vertical while panning with one handle, or change the vertical and pan with one handle for stills. I also like the lever locks on the legs. You can get the top of the QR as close as 9 inches to the ground easily (see pic). The handles must be unscrewed from the tripod to fit the tripod in its bag, and Vanguard provides a flimsy plastic device to keep the handles from banging around inside the bag and with the tripod.

Love this tripod !
I'm a serious amateur photographer. I've used cheap tripods for years because I thought I didn't need a "ggod" one. Thins changed I needed a sturdy 3 legs. Someone on a photography group recommended this one.
I love it! The I like the handles and pan head. I highly recommend this one.

Met my expectations
I had several lighter weight tripods and I wanted a sturdier unit to be able to carry in my Jeep for road trips. This unit is well built and very solid. Like the smooth movement of the pan head. Really like the 3 bubble levels on the head since I have been known to get my horizon lines at an angle.

Exceptional Value
This is the first tripod I've purchased. Before this I used a cheap "freebie" that required more physical compensation than I realized. One thing I've learned is that I don't use something if I don't like it; which meant it was time to buy a real tripod. I looked at all "known" brands and made the comparisons like all careful consumers do. I choose the Vanguard because of its exceptional build quality at this price point. While I hadn't heard of this brand much other than seeing a lower-priced version on display, I am thrilled with this purchase. It does all I want exceptionally well with high-quality materials, precision, and thorough design (like bubble levels, double lock quick release, weight hook, horizontal pan mode, and quick one stop opening.
