Good ball head, no issues
I have bought two of this heads to go on two Alta Pro 284CT tripods. The head is fairly light weight. The tightening knob is large and clamps the head tightly. Light pressure on the knob provides good clamping, but there is a lot of room left in the knob to keep turning it for even more tightening, so it takes a bit of playing with it to find the sufficient and acceptable tightness level for the weight of the particular rig attached to it. On one of the heads the QD clamp has a bit of play, I should tighten the socket screw on it.
The quick level mechanism works even if a bit finicky; I am not seeing an immediate use for it since it only will level the head with respect to the tripod legs, and if those are not level its not useful for leveling. But it doesn't hurt anything, so why not.
The panning axis is smooth and has good resistance. Lock on it is secure and does not have pull-out angle adjustment that is present on the ball lock handle.
On a good ball head, the framing of the shot should not change when the head is tightened. On this head, this is almost the case. There is a tiny amount of motion of the frame when the head is tightened, at least on the 284CT legs. Also, on the 284CT, gentle pressing on the end of a 70-200 mm lens attached to a D700 body mounted on this head definitely can be seen as motion of the frame. The set up is not rock solid. I can trace it to the motion of the column in the tripod in its socket and that does not get smaller as the column lock bolt is tightened, and secondly, to the flex of the legs, but not to the head creep.
This head with the 284CT is a good travel combination, I think, and they do fit in the bag provided with the tripod, even if tightly. I do not own more expensive heads; this one, if not stellar, is so far adequate for my needs.

Great Product for Reasonable Price
I used the ball head for my macro photography. The Vanguard ball head helps me to move my camera with ease.
It can hold steadilly my 5D with lens.
I have never used the more expensive ball heads in the market so I don't know how good they are but for my opinion, this head is strong enough for my purpose

Good Head
I love this head.
My other head is an Arca-Swiss which cost twice as much--this one's just as good. And it weighs less, too.
I'm happy that it's Arca-Swiss compatible.
I don't have much use for the quick switch on this head, but that's not significant.
It works great.
