Questions & Answers

JOHN C : Hi, Will this fit on a Tracker 4 with 3-way pan head base? I cant seem to get the column removed from the swivel, which is where I'd guess this would attach.JON M : I don't know, but fwiw I have mine attached to a Manfrotto 3021bn tripod. Works really well.THOMAS K : I gave up on this head, found it to be way too stiff and unadable for my useS. T. S : Not aware of tracker 4, so I can 't speak to your inquiry. GH-100 has performed well for me.
Shopper : Would this head handle a nikon D7000 camera plus a 70-300mm lens?ROBERT D : The short answer to your question is "Yes" but I would really qualify that answer a bit. You can certainly use this ballhead but for that combination of equipment. However, if you are planning to shoot action shots like sports, wildlife, etc. I would consider another ballhead. I've personally used this with the D7000 body and 200-400mm f/4 and I've not been pleased with the results. Because the ballhead has a fair amount of height to it and because the quick release isn't locked in that great, it tends to wiggle and wobble more than I like or am willing to accept. For still photographs it is just fine and should be fine with the combination you mentioned if you are shooting stills. Hope this is helpful.JAMES B : not a problem at all, i use a 5d2 with battery grip, l lenses, and have no problems at all. very sturdy head.......HERM D : Theoretically, it would handle that combo but I was not totally impressed with the rigidity of the plate when clipped into place. It most often has some wiggle even with smaller lens in place. Much better success with the Manfrotto pistol grip head because camera plate is much more solid in place even with 150-500 zoom or a prime 300 that i use alot. It's worth the extra mmoney ! Hope that helps.JERRY M : I bought a vanguard to mount my Ruger MarkII .22 cal. pistol and it didn't work. Wouldn't hold. Adorama worked with me and took it back and traded it for a SLIK AF2100. It's much stronger and works excellent.BOB F : I think it would be OK if you have a mount on the lensJames C : I am not a Nikon shooter (anymore anyway) but it easily handled my Canon 7D with 70-200. It is rated (I believe) at 13 pounds. I can't imagine your combo would be heavier.CRAIG M : I use mine with an older Canon rebel model with attached battery pack and L-bracket .wITH A 100 MACRO AND A Tamron-vc lens.If tilted down it can slip a little if the tension is too loose for what you are using.ROBERT L : Easily. My camera with vertical grip, flash and 500mm lens has no problem being supported by the Vanguard head. It is excellent.DAVID F : Yes I believe it will. I have used it for a Canon 5D Mark II with a vertical grip and a 70-200MM "L" series lens and it was very secure. I think I could have added an adapter with a second Rebel type body and a "Nifty Fifty" and it still would have held. I find that it is very secure. The con side of that is the grip takes a good bit of muscle to reposition the head should it be needed. Highly recomend.RAY B : I have been using the Vanguard GH-100 for several years and have had no problems using it with a Nikon D7000 or D800 with the same Lens you mention. Hope this helps.DOROTHY N : I have a Canon 5D full frame and Canon 7D c-mos sensor with a 100-400 lens and it supports both beautifully. Also use a vanguard carbon fiber tripod. Awesome pair. Have had them a couple years and they get hard use, Almost daily. Am considering buying another similar set. Hope this helps.JON M : Absolutely. I had that combo, it worked really well.JLYNN F : I have used the Vanguard GH-100 Grip Head with a Nikon D90 and a 70 - 300mm Nikon Lens without any trouble. I would think you should be fine with the Nikon D7000. I have been very happy with it and would certainly recommend at this price point.GLEN M : Handles a Canon 5D Mark III and 70-200 lens well.BLANE H : Specs say 13lbs. I believe it. This is a very robust grip. Once you get it "broken in" and have a feel for how the tensions track on the ball and socket, you will find it fun to use.MIRSINE D : Yes but I dont like it because its hard to care it around,I can even use the back of my tripod because if I have conect the grip head I cant zipper the bag.JASON R : yes, I use a D7000 with an 80-200 2.8 lens and it works just fine !LENNY S : Yes it will no problemWILLIAM G : I'm using it with a D90 and an 18-200 DX zoom. No problem at all, and I think it could handle a lot more weight than I'm putting on it. Once it's locked, it's next to impossible to move manually. I'd feel comfortable with a big lens and a lot of leverage....
Shopper : Will the vanguard GH-100 work with any tripod?FIELD I : I think it will it has a small set of threads and a large set. I have 4 tripods and it works for all of them with the two choices.KELLY T : Yes - it's mounted as every other head.JOHN M : I use a Flashpoint tripod and have not had a problem using them together.BRIAR R : Yes, the GH-100 will work with any standard tripod.

Get One

I attached this to my new Proline Tripod and it is amazing. There will be a lot less missed shots while mounted in a stationary position. I cannot wait to put this to use even more once the springs comes alive. They say you need to invest in a great tripod once in your career, I say you need one of these grip heads to apply to that tripod.

great product produces angles and smooth panning

works great just as shown on the website video (which I would reccommend viewing). Vertical to horizontal change is quick and easy. Quick handle angle change. easy and smooth transition to pan for videos or action shots. Tension control is a simple click. I like this and would reccommend.

We'll see when number 2 arrives.

When I got it everything was all good. Cool adjustability and solid feel. However, by the second day, I noticed some problems. The head when fully tightened had play (like an old car with play in the steering wheel). As well as creep when in the portrait position even when the tensioner was tightened all the way. I've sent mine back and am waiting for a new one. I hope works as advertised.

Best bang for the buck on a pistol head

No issues to report. Using on a Benro/Manfrotto 190BX & a Nikon D300 w/battery grip, inc. a SB900 speedlight. Lenses used have been a Sigma 17-70mm, Nikon 70-200mm VR & a Sigma 150-500mm. No sagging, ball grip stays firm and in place. Used the tripod collar with the 2 larger lenses, no movement of note to report. Cannot recommend this product highly enough, considering its price point. Takes a little time to get used to, but once mastered, it's a pleasure to use.

Great but for one exception

This is an awesome grip head except......it's limited range of motion as it will only tilt back 9 degrees. Honestly, had I realized this, I would not have purchased this head. Not sure what Vanguard was thinking with this design. It can be very frustrating and time-consuming to use. I gave this an average rating but other than this limitation, it would be 5-stars.

Very solid head

I really like this head, it is very stable and easy to use. I've used the panorama feature a few times and it is great. The head is a little heavy but I'm fine with that, it helps to make it stable. My only real complaint is the slightly limited range of motion. There are times that I would like it to go in one direction but it can't. It's not a huge deal but it has taken a bit of getting used to.

Nice piece of equipment

The 5 degree click setup for panoramic photos sold me on this, It takes a bit of time to get used to it and then it just becomes as easy as another hand.

Quality product

I bought this head based on the review in Popular Photography. The plastic handle with rubberized grip is sturdy and works well in cold conditions. It's easy to position and reposition. The head is stable with a Nikon D200 and Sigma 150-500mm lens. An excellect product for the price. Drawback: The only level is not visible while the the camera/lens is mounted.

Great Grip Head

Is everything it says it is. The pistol grip really enhances your ability to change postions quickly with little effort. Good range of motion. I put it on a Vanguard Alta Pro 264AT Tripod and it works great.

Great Value in a versatile head

Good quality and value all around. A bit heavy and hard to fit in a standard tripod case.

Don't leave home without it!

I actually bought two based on a review I read. I wanted to replace an old head on my 25 year old Velbon tripod and my wife was not happy with the tripod head she was using. My wife hasn't started using hers yet but after listening to my rants and raves, she will be soon!
