I initially purchased the CTC red laser for my S&W Shield in 9mm (CTC had yet to offer a green laser for the Shield, and I was unaware at the time, that Viridian had a green laser for the gun. I had previously purchased a different model Viridian green laser for my S&W M&P 45). The CTC red laser is essentially worthless in daylight. When I realized Viridian had a green laser for the Shield, I ordered one. I subsequently ordered a second one for my recently acquired Shield 40S&W. I prefer the activation system of the CTC laser better. The activation button on the CTC laser is positioned at the front of the grip, and is activated by slightly depressing the middle finger of the gun hand, on the grip. it is very easy to cycle between on and off, with the gun hand. There's two ways to activate the Viridian: you can manually activate it by depressing the button on the left side of the laser, or - if you have the holster with the built-in magnet, you can leave the laser on. The magnet deactivates the laser when the gun is holstered, with the laser activating when the gun is drawn from the holster. Neither of the special holsters does an efficient job of deactivating the lasers when the guns are holstered. After a short period of time, the batteries are completely discharged. As a result, I leave the lasers deactivated when the guns are not in use. The downside to the CTC green lasers is, they're roughly $100 more expensive than the Viridian.
