Review Summary
Velbon Neo Carmagne 740.... A 4-section professional tripod (legs only) made from carbon fibre. The inner jut pipe ensures extra stability and the magnesium alloy body enables a maximum height of 67.8" (173cm) with a weight of just over 5 lbs (2.3kg). Length when folded is just 22.8" (58cm). With a minimum height of just 5.6" (14.2 cm) this tripod has a very desireable working range, and light weight to go.
Velbon's unique 'inner jut pipe' system makes the legs more sturdy and stops them from rotating when the locking nuts are tightened or loosened. Neo Carmagne tripods remain very sturdy even when used at their maximum height.
The angle of each leg is individually adjustable, enabling ideal positioning of your tripod and camera equipment, even on difficult terrain such as rocky hillsides. By removing the splittable center column, the legs can be opened to their maximum spread, allowing ultra-low-angle shooting at the minimum height.
Neo Carmagne (also known as Sherpa Pro) are the successors to Velbon's Carmagne, their first series of carbon fibre/magnesium alloy photo tripods. What's behind the name "Carmagne"?
Tripod legs made from carbon fibre are stronger than those made from aluminum, iron or steel. They are also more than 25% lighter than legs made from aluminum, are resistant to temperature changes, and display superior vibration absorption. Velbon Neo Carmagne tripods use seven-layer, cross-woven carbon fibre tripod legs to ensure that your camera equipment is safe, stable, and lighter to manipulate when mounted.
Velbon use magnesium castings for the head and body of the tripod, where torsional rigidity is critical. Magnesium alloys are two-thirds the weight of aluminum, and one-third stronger. Velbon introduced the world's first magnesiumalloy tripod in 1986, and continue to set the standard for the industry.
