I have have several different Velbon tripods and have never really had any kind of operational failures. The ph-157Q head is functional and easy to operate, plus you can always get parts... Will always go back to the Velbon family of products to consider... Their newest composite tripod is light and extremely stable, I have it also.

This is a replacement for my Velbon 156 head that broke. That one was made with white metal and this one is aluminum... seems well made. It fit onto the same 10-24 screw in my Velbon 450 tripod. Easy to use and firm control; would be able to secure heavier cameras.

I recently purchased this tripod head for my landscape photography needs .... And it does very well for that purpose. It holds my Canon 7D camera body with either my Canon 16-35mm lens or my Canon 24-70mm lens on it. Either set up is very stable on a Manfrotto 190XPROB tripod. The Velbon head is described as a three-way pan tilt head and it does that just fine ... Be aware that there are only two controls for the three variations. The long arm controls both the swivel and the forward and back tilt feature. This is not a problem for me ..... Just wanted to make people aware of that. One last caution ... Make sure that you are aware that the head comes with a 1/4" thread and you will need to order a 3/8" thread adapter if your tripod has a 3/8" threaded stud on it. Overall opinion is that this tripod head is a very good value for the cost.
