william w : It says its a 2 way pan head---So how do you pan with this?AMY D : Tilt - up/down and Pan - left/right.TIMOTHY J : I actually no longer have this monopod. One of the reasons I don't have it any more is because it doesn't pan left and right. Haha. I suppose their "2-way pan" means that it goes up... and down. It is a very light monopod that could work for something that has very good image stabilization, or is heavy enough that it won't wobble. I sold mine and upgraded to a Manfrotto 561BHDV-1 monopod, which was absolutely worth the money, due to the fairly universal mount, actual fluid head, and panning base with three support feet. But if you just need SOMETHING to help you with run-and-gun shooting, go for it. :)JAMES M : screw the footpad up to expose the spike and you turn the whole monopod from side to sideSTEVEN T : Being that it is a monopod, there is only one point of contact with the ground, so you can simpley traverse left and right by rotating the entire assembly .

Lots of bang for a smaller buck

Used the monopod first time at a wedding. Very handy if you can't afford a steadicamset up. Made long shoot periods less tiring holding the video camera and still allowed for quick movement to get the perfect shots. I would recommend this product for still or video shots where a tripod is too bulky

Inexpensive, but good quality

Longer extension than expected, not as light as more expensive monopods, but since I use a heavy camera/lens combo, shaving even 10 oz. would be irrelevant. Quick release is adequate. Very inexpensive for the value, looks good too.

The Velbon UP-400DX is the perfect monopod when you need to capture and follow the action from first take to last. With a two way panhead it was designed for video and don't worry, need to shoot stills, no problem.
