I purchased this sight for a Glock 34. The overall quality of the sight is excellent. The large window, clear distortion free glass and very bright dot make this a very hard sight to beat. The mount process was very simple since it included the Glock MOS hardware. All of this for a very reasonable price and Vortex's amazing warranty. If you are in the market for a large window red dot I would give this one a hard look.

Flawless optic. The large window that it offers makes it easy to acquire the dot everytime. 2MOA gives the best accuracy. Durability is great, I took a hard fall while doing a stage and the optic held true.

Gotta admit, I bought the XL 8MOA impulsively and had buyer's remorse waiting for it to arrive. I had mainly had some reservations about the 8MOA dot as I never used anything bigger than 3MOA It turned out to be remarkably precise and effective. It paired seamlessly with the Springfield Prodigy 4. 25" Being a SIG guy, I own many DPP red dots, and was happy Vortex chose that footprint. The window is huge and clear, the 8MOA dot awesome I even caught myself raking the slide one-handed many times using the XL's front serrations Interesting battery compartment design, feels secure and is definitely innovative. This dot exudes ruggedness and performance, I love this thing! As for what's included in the box, Vortex went out of its way to make sure no one is left behind or has to go find some screws that fit a particular slide, that is great touch.

Incredible optic. I own an acro, rmr, sro, 509t, and I can honestly say Clarity is top tier, and the battery life and replacement method is incredible. Amazing window size and bright enough for any environment. . I have a ST mounted on my Ruger MkIII Hunter and an XL on my PTR 9KT?5 out of 5 stars. The whole Defender line is great.

I have this dot on just about all my competition set ups from pistols, PCC, to shotguns. The battery life had been fantastic and the dot is clear. I didnt think i would like the bigger MOA dot, but have actually grown quite fond of it.

I am very happy with this purchase. The sight picture is crystal clear and you can tell it is built with quality. Vortex is the best in the glass game in my opinion and the ease of use and durability of their products proves it. Not to mention they are a fraction of what other glass manufacturers are asking AND a lifetime warranty, that you probably won't have to use because these optics are tough. You will never regret a purchase from Vortex.

Vortex has, once again, delivered a fantastic product. With a clear sight picture, easy mounting, and Vortex's lifetime warranty this red dot will be going on any pistol i buy. My only issue was finding the correct adapter plate for my Glock. Once I finally found the correct plate (Glock plate #4 for anyone else that runs into this issue) this red dot was simple to zero and has been a tack driver ever since.

The Defender XL is my favorite pistol red sight on the market. Quick easy and reliable. The front of the sight allows easy cocking of the weapon even one handed

I've been running the Vortex Defender XL with the 8 MOA Dot for a few months now. Absolutely love it. I run two Carry Optics guns in USPSA. One is a CZ Shadow II Orange with an SRO, and one is a Sig 320 with the Defender XL. The dot is cleaner on the Defender than on the SRO. I wasn't overly excited about the 8 MOA dot when I ordered the optic, but I'm glad that's the direction I went. 8 MOA is awesome on a competition stage when you need hits fast. I've taken the 8 MOA dot out beyond 50 yards and scored A zone hits easily. The dot is really clean with no blossom. The optic zeroe'd well for me. Adjustments are about as tactile as you're going to get out of a compact optic. The Defender is much more robust than my SRO, which ironically doesn't have the warranty that the Vortex has. Having run both, I'm going to opt for the Defender XL over the SRO every time.

I want to start this review off by saying it will be long and I am not bragging just trying to set the stage for my experience with this optic. I have been shooting red dots on handguns for over 10 years between competition (USPSA, IDPA and Steel challenge), personal carry and duty. I started my red dot journey with a Glock 19 and a Vortex Venom and then between new technology, different purposes and agency issues optics I have used and own Holosun (509, 507, 407, 407k and the EPS carry), Aimpoint acro, Trijicon SRO and RMR and a few others. I made it to the rank of Grand master for Steel challenge in carry optics and Master in Carry optics for IDPA and USPSA. After owning this optic for over a month and shooting a little over 1000 rounds through it and several quals and competitions this is one of my favorite pistol dots I own. The clarity of the glass and dot is outstanding, the size of the 5moa dot in the housing is almost perfect, it is so easy to fine, present and you see a lot. If you are searching for the dot its you not the optic, the mounting options and screws that come with it are awesome and the MOS plate is way better than the factory MOS plate from Glock. The controls are awesome, the durability is incredible so far and all around it is a great option for competion, home defense or even a backup optic on a rifle. I currently have it on a Glock 34 and I like it so much I will be getting the CCW for my g43x and the ST for my G19. The only downside is with how big it is it does not fit in safariland or other duty holsters but it fits in all my other competition holsters (LAG, Trex arms, blade tech) just fine. Vortex really hit the nail on the head with this optic and possibly the whole pistol dot line (havent used the ST or CCW yet so I can't speak to those) and I am impressed.

Great clarity, logical recessed controls but the dot is just too darned big! It covers up so much of the X-Ring to get my rounds truly centered for 50 yard shots.

These Vortex Defender sights are excellent. Vortex includes a handful of different screws that fit a variety of pistols. They even label the bags with the screw size and which pistol they're meant for; a nice touch that other companies could learn from. I've used almost every pistol mounted red dot, and after my first Defender purchase, I exclusively purchase the Vortex Defender sights. The newest size - the XL - is about as big as a Romeo1 Pro/Delta Point Pro and shares the footprint. The Defender XL is also similar in price, but comes with the legendary Vortex warranty. For duty, these things are solid - very durable. I've got them on everything from 9mm pistols to 44 mag revolvers to shotguns and they work in every case.

I put this optic on a MPA DS9 (2011 platform) for the purpose of using it in competition. It is a great dot for this purpose. I like the 5 MOA dot for this purpose. It is a little big for small or partial targets at distance, but I will get used to that over time. The kit comes with an impressive amount of mounting hardware. I used the wrong screws at first but later adjusted to the correct mounting screws into the plate. Great clarity, easy to use. The only complaint is that I cannot turn the optic off. It "goes to sleep" after 10 minutes, but that means that while I am traveling to a match the optic is on and burning battery.

Enhance your shooting experience with the Vortex Optics Defender-XL Micro Red Dot Sight, featuring an 8 MOA Dot Reticle in sleek black. Designed for competitive shooters who demand precision and speed, this optic is engineered to withstand the rigors of any shooting environment. Its robust construction is centered around a large sight window, providing superior peripheral vision and enabling rapid target acquisition and follow-up shots.
The Defender-XL is equipped with an Auto-Shutoff feature, which conserves battery life by automatically powering down the red dot after 10 minutes of inactivity. This feature can be easily engaged or disengaged by pressing and holding the up and down buttons for three seconds. When engaged, the brightness transitions from the lowest to the highest setting over three seconds, and vice versa when disengaged.
For added convenience, the Motion Activation feature ensures the red dot is ready when you are. When the auto-shutoff is active, the sight automatically powers on with movement, eliminating the need for manual activation. The Button Lockout mode prevents accidental adjustments, ensuring your settings remain consistent. Activate this mode by holding the "Up" button for three seconds, with visual confirmation provided by a brief blink of the dot.
The Defender-XL offers 12 brightness settings, including 10 for daylight and two for night vision, allowing you to customize visibility to your environment. Powered by a CR2032 battery, this red dot sight delivers an impressive battery life of up to 25,000 hours at setting six, ensuring long-lasting performance.
Precision is further enhanced with adjustable Elevation and Windage Turrets, each providing audible and tactile feedback with every click. These turrets allow for precise adjustments to the bullet's point of impact, with each click corresponding to 1 MOA. Whether you're adjusting for elevation or windage, the Defender-XL ensures your shots are on target.
Experience the reliability and performance of the Vortex Optics Defender-XL Micro Red Dot Sight, and elevate your shooting capabilities to new heights.
