Absolutely awesome optics

I used this scope for the first time today. I used it on my S&W Volunteer AR 15. It was absolutely fantastic, Easy to mound. Took less than 10 rounds to zero. Very crisp retile. Easy target acquisition. Very tight shot groupings from about 100 yards. Plenty of eye relief, Very comfortable shooting.

For what it's worth

I think this scope, not only fits any budget, but also fits most scenarios. I have it on my AR Platform and because of this scope I've named my rifle The Range Finder. It allows for close and far encounters. For me that's perfect for Coyote Hunting. I have other Vortex scopes on other calibers but for a .223 this thing is clutch. I'd buy it again but thanks to Vortex, I won't ever have to. Y'all be safe.

Better than an ACOG

I bought this a couple weeks ago and I couldn?t be happier. It is way better than an ACOG for a the fraction of the cost. It was super easy to sight in and it is accurate with every shot. It has a crystal clear sight picture and just the right amount of magnification. It also comes with really nice lens caps. Do yourself a favor and buy this scope!!

Superb Optic

Purchased on 2017 and still holding zero after 2K+ rounds. Running this optic on the recommended AR platform and it's accuracy/target acquisition are superb, accurately engaging targets at various distances with the reticle is quick and easy hitting steel at 150, 330 and 415 meters all on one mag makes for a great shooting experience.

Great scope

This scope is an awesome scope. I?m writing this 1 star review only because I paid 350.00 for this scope and now it?s 450. Greedy people make me sick. I?m disappointed in vortex.

Superb scope.

I bought this 2 years ago. The reticle is totally intuitive and works great when ranging red deer (ca. 15" chest). Shots out to 300m are very accurately placed, and the scope allows quick shots at shorter distances. If you zero at about 150m on a 308win, the lower crosshair bars are spot on for 300, 400 and 500m. It is very light, bright, rugged, with an excellent IR that can be dimmed right down for low light conditions. I found the brightness of the image is the same as the brightness with the naked eye, which works great at low light. The turret cap lanyard broke, but that is a mimor issue. I removed the wires anyway, as they can snag on stuff. Otherwise, totally superb piece of kit.

Inexplicably excellent

The only thing I would want would be an auto-shutoff. I've gone through a few batteries just being an idiot. But that doesn't even matter because the prism etching means it works just as well without the lights (as long as it's not dark outside). I've got it centered for my 5.56 LaRue AR at 100 yards and by crazy happenstance when I drop in my .22lr BCG conversion: where the thick bottom vertical line of the reticle tapers into the thinner vertical line is EXACTLY where the .22 round hits within 100ft. It's just fantastic happenstance and I love it. Aside from all the other very qualified reasons for giving this such a high rating, just the fact that this serendipity occurred makes this my best optic purchase of my life. I was considering getting iron sights, but there's no reason to with this scope. Probably a very specific and unhelpful review, but I wanted to let people know in case you, too will have a 16" barrel on a 5.56 AR and want to shoot some .22lr without needing to swap out your optic or switch to iron sights. Maybe I hit the optic on rifle lottery, but man, any other optic choice would have just been throwing away money.

Poor man's ACOG!

Bought one a couple of years ago, has been completely reliable and accurate for the entire time. Got it zeroed in a single trip to the range and I haven't had to touch the dial in over 4 years! Its also great being able to choose your brightness settings, many Marines I knew while active duty would tape over the ACOG fiber optic because it would make the reticle just way too bright on sunny days. The only think that would make it better is if Vortex made a ARD for it. Great scope, would recommend for any ar-15 build!

Etched reticle

Added this to the wife's rifle, the etched glass and light magnification is what drew me in. It's always ready for action if needed. Flip up caps were a nice touch.

Highly durable, made for 5.56 and 9mm applications

I have several of these Spitfires... One sits atop a go to 10.5" barreled AR I built from scratch using high quality parts for it's extreme ease of ingress/egress of vehicles and indoor/outdoor dual applications... The other sits atop a CZ "Scorpion" with it's 8.75" barrel in 9mm for the same applications in a pistol caliber that runs sub-sonic ammo. I can absolutely attest to their 200 yard and closer applications and both are zero'd at 100 yards with very slight hold over's for both platforms the 5.56 AR-15 shorty and the 9mm... The Spitfire reticle is super fast to pick up in both day/evening applications and make 200 yard pop shots quick and almost feels like a "gamer" application to everyone that I've let shoot both platforms. I was attending to our German Shepherd Puppy one evening and the Scorpion got bumped off a 14' porch rail and into some hard compacted dirt. I cleaned all the dirt off the front lens carefully and took her to the range several days later to see if the zero had changed. IT STILL HELD ZERO which is amazing from a 14 Foot drop onto some December hard Clay/Dirt. Try that little stunt with our father's rifle/scope rigs of yesteryear and see how that turns out! The illumination in both green and red along with the scopes anti-fog, shock, and waterproof features make this little "B" of a scope an Outdoors-man's dream. I keep at least one of these in the cargo hold tethered down for the current change of events all the time and have full confidence they will work when I need them to with little to no maintenance and worry.

CUSTOMER SERVICE UNMATCHED

First off, the optic is an amazing optic 5/5. For the value you get its unmatched, However this is not what sparked my interest to leave a review. I bought this optic used from a private party, and with further evaluation of the optic when I got home I was missing the riser piece between the optic and the mount. Bummed out I start looking online for mounts for the optic and couldn't find what I was looking for. So I decide to email Vortex to see if I could purchase the piece I was missing. a few days later I get an order confirmation for the piece I needed for NO CHARGE. On top of all that, they also are sending out a free Vortex hat. WOW. Keep in mind this was a used optic and not their fault I didn't get the riser. CUSTOMER SERVICE UNMATCHED.

Just buy it

I have one of these attached to my CX4 and I couldn't be happier. It's small, it's sharp, it's bright, and although the eye relief isn't great (the biggest shortcoming of prism scopes) I had no trouble modding my integrated rear iron to accommodate it. I've learned to like the reticle too, and the build quality is rock solid. Even the caps are good quality. I will say, the one reviewer who mentioned that the turret clicks aren't consistent was right, but mine does stay put after I set it, it's just a little fiddly to tweak it to zero. It actually held zero mostly even after removing and reattaching to the gun, to my surprise, and after poking at it with a handful of test rounds I'm back to ringing the 200yd gong and wishing I had a 250 or 300 to try for. If you want a compact scope for a carbine, get this and don't look back.

Not worth it.

I love everything about the scope but the eye relief is so short you have to basically place your eye on the rear of the optic. I love Vortex but not this product.

3x spitfire.

I've used the 3x spitfire over the last few months practicing for a SDM course. I've had zero issues with it. I've shot 24in steel plates at 500m with 55-75g 5.56 ammo. Mostly Hornady black and frontier with m193 of a lot of brands. It's done everything it was made to do... There's two problems with it imo. There's better options available on the market and the same price or less. The second been the reticle. The cross hairs are thick which makes it harder to get a pin point zero at 100m. The BDC maxes out at 500m while similar offerings go out to 600m. The horizontal marks at 300, 400, 500m work for sizing targets, but other brands have a secondary way to size targets and estimate range. The 3x spitfire doesn't have wind holds. I'd like to see a rethought reticle, or a 4x, 5x spitfire with different reticle.

Unbelievable

I just replaced my current scope on my ar 15 with the spitfire 3x. I could not believe how clear and easy to acquire target. To my accuracy I was stunned I sighted in with little problem and put 60 + rounds in the center from 100 yards.in the last ten I did rapid fire and stayed right where I wanted.I love this scope great buy

Great product, easy to use

I bought this spitfire 3x prism scope for an ar-15 I built, and I loved it! I slapped it on the gun, took a shot at 50yds to see if it was on paper and I was just a couple inches to the right and 4 inches low.. I made the adjusts at 50yds and then sighted it at 100 yds.. took less than 15min and I couldn’t be more happy

Perfect scope for AR style or similar rifles!

Bought this for my KelTec RDB. Initially I had bought the Burris MTAC setup but didn’t like it on this rifle, too big for this particular gun. Came across this while researching a replacement. Absolutely love it! I put a Venom Red Dot on one of the off-set mini Pic rails for close in shots. Perfect setup for an AR or similar rifle! An ACOG reticle in an affordable, quality scope.

Fabulous Optic

I purchased this scope to replace my Strikefire II red dot, due to astigmatism. Mounting took about 10 min. and around 15 min for sighting in. Since I only had a 25 yd. range to work with, I used an Arma Dynamics target to achieve a 100 yd. sight in. The glass is clear and the reticle is sharp. After sighting for 100 yards, I used the 400 yd. crosshair to shoot this target at 25 yards. I highly recommend this sight!

Special forces love it

This scope even impressed my buddy who is a former army special forces. The prism is bright, the construction is tough AND the customer service is unheard of. When I called to replace the mounting screws I lost they sent me new ones, FREE without verification that I actually owned one of thier scopes. Vortex all the way!

Perfect match for my AR5.7

I bought this red dot from a recommendations from Vortex guru Ken. I couldn't be happier with this choice. Whether I am shooting at 50, 100, or 200 yards, I am shooting 1" groups. The 3x is just enough magnification to see a the target at 200 yards. Also, I can't forget about the illumination. Being able to choose between green and red is great, also being able to choose the brightness. Since purchasing this Ken has directed me on 2 more vortex optic purchases that I am very happy with.

Excellent optic for the money!!

I purchased this as an economical alternative to an ACOG (TA31RCO, and I have to say I'm loving this optic. Having used an ACOG many times before, the Spitfire is very comparable as far as features, reliability, and durability. I've beat the H**L outta this thing, and it's maintained zero through it all. The reticle is super easy to use, and again is very comparable to the ACOG as far as utility. While the ACOG does have the fiber optic illumination option, which is nice, it really is more of a gimmick in most field applications.

Crystal Clear & Crisp Reticle

I’ve been using this on my .300 Blackout Pistol for nearly two years. I zeroed the center crosshairs for SuperSonics at 100yds. The bottom subtension hits at 100yds with subs using the same zero. Love that I can switch between supers and subs with same optic and maintain consistent accuracy. This is suppressed and unsuppressed on an 8.5” build.

Just what I needed

Great scope. Compact, clear glass, like the green color best. well built. Only con is I wish the tick marks on the were a little wider. At distance, the 200-500 ticks become a little hard to see. But I understand they are scaled to a specific size to be able to judge distance on a target.

Top of the line sight for a great price.

I have this optic mounted on my Sig M400 elite and it is a perfect match. The glass is clear, the etched reticle is exactly what I was looking for (it’s great for fast shots and precise shots, and has redundancy in case your battery goes out). The fact that this optic includes flip up covers and a mount (which would add $100+ on other optics) is a big win as well. Illumination is just right, with 1-5 settings going from barely illuminated to daylight-bright. My only slight gripe is that the eye relief is a little close for my taste, but that’s more a consequence of my shooting style than anything else. I never learned the military “nose to charging handle” technique so it’s something I have to get used to. Non the less, I just collapse the stock one notch from normal and that issue was solved. Overall a great general-use optic for a long gun. After about 800 rounds through this set-up I couldn’t be happier and I will likely purchase the same or similar optic to mount to my patrol rifle. This optic is right in line with all other Vortex optics which means you get the highest quality without the inflated price tag.

I don’t think I can rave quite enough about the Spitfire 3x! I put this on my AR and haven’t regretted it for a moment. Aside from how easy it was to get zeroed in and set up, the clarity and quality of the glass is absolutely amazing. On top of all that the warranty is unbeatable. I think I got more for my money and with better quality than most of the other manufacturers out there. I also just added a Vortex Venom 3 MOA red dot on one of the 45 degree picatinny rail that came with the spitf...

Accurate scope for S&W AR 15

By Mike

I took a lot time researching red dots and scopes for my AR because I didn't know what I really wanted in a scope. I know i didn't want a long range scope for a 5.56 but i didn't want 1x either. So I stumbled upon the Spitfire 3x and thought, heck yeah, the best of both worlds, not too far and not too close with tons of options. The first thing I love is that you can go green or red. When you have different lighting situations, sometimes green is easier to see and sometimes red is easier ...

The Vortex Optics Spitfire 3x Prism Scope with EBR-556B Reticle is designed for use with the MSR platform and it's specific ballistic characteristics. It uses a prism-based optical system with anti-reflective fully multicoated optics to provide a reliable sight, without taking up valuable rail space. With its 3x magnification this optic is ideal for medium to long-range use. Dual Picatinny rails, set at 45deg. on the upper forward half, are perfect for attaching a reflex sight or illuminator. The housing is nitrogen-filled and o-ring sealed for water and fogproof performance in all weather conditions.

The EBR-556B Enhanced Battle Reticle features a ballistic-drop compensation (BDC) configuration designed around the 5.56x45 (.223 Remington) cartridge using a 55 grain round and 16" barrel. The central crosshair is meant to be zeroed at 100 yd and is effective to 200 yd. BDC stadia on the lower vertical axis provide holdover reference points from 300 to 500 yd in one hundred yard increments. The reticle can be illuminated in either red or green, depending on the situation and preference. Each color has five selectable brightness levels, with an 'off' position between each level to quickly return to a preferred brightness without having to cycle through them all.
