The tripod is effortless to deploy, it's stable in windy conditions, and it supports the weight of a spotting scope without issue. There are lighter and smaller options available, but this tripod is an excellent value.

I recently purchased a Vortex Razor HD 27-60x85wa spotting scope from Expert Voice as an upgrade to my Vortex Diamondback HD 20-60-85. I needed something new to reach further with clarity and definition. I also decided to upgrade my antiquated tripod and ordered the Vortex High Country II tripod kit. I will review both items in this one review. Expert Voice had the best pricing by far for the scope. The ease of ordering and the subsequent time for receipt of my new scope went very well. Product was new in box. Packaged very well by Vortex. I did not shop around for pricing on the tripod so I'm not sure if it could have been found cheaper elsewhere. Having said that, I have had some problems in the past with a product order from Expert Voice and Expert Voice had my back the entire time. I hesitate to "shop" anywhere else for that very reason. They'll help to make things right, if required. Good on Expert Voice. The spotting scope arrived mounted firmly in foam. Comes with a user installed full length neoprene protective cover (put the neoprene cover on before you attach the eyepiece, or it won't work. Ask me how I know?), an eyepiece and objective lens cover, and adequate instructions for assembly. It also comes with a Arca-Swiss tripod adapter which fit perfectly with the new Vortex High Country II tripod. No additional purchase of base plates is required to make everything fit together. Upon initial inspection, the scope lens covers fit extremely well and have a "loophole" built into them to secure them to "something", but there is not a convenient way to attach them to anything on the scope while not being used. I guess you could tie them to the neoprene jacket, but perhaps some manufacturing thought about it beforehand. I'm not sure what the perfect solution is but for now I will tie them in using the neoprene jacket as an anchor point. Also, it is left up to the owner/user to come up with a tether as Vortex does not provide anything. The scope has the option to rotate it along the horizontal axis to better align for various users. Very handy when mounted to a tripod and you have different folks using it who are vastly different in height, such as my wife and me. It has a simple "nut" that you loosen or tighten to accomplish the rotation. The "nut" is covered with a small rubber covering that does not allow me to completely tighten the steel nut underneath, before it slips around the steel nut. Better yet, how about a hard plastic knurled knob to crank down on. The stock nut does have a slotted groove in it for a screwdriver, but who wants to carry around a screwdriver? Just saying? The scope is leaps and bounds beyond my other Diamondback. Go figure, right? Clarity at all current range is exceptional and the zoom at further range is exemplary. At 100 yards I can literally count kernels of corn on the stalk or clearly see hits on a target regardless of caliper. At 200 yards I can clearly count the screws on my raised hunting blind. At 850 yards, I can read the numbers on a license plate. I am still waiting to glass a whitetail deer at 100 yards, but I expect I will have absolutely no problem determining if the animal is a mature 6 point or a young 8 point. I also have no doubt that I would have any problem out to 500 yards. The clarity is that good. The tripod is rock solid, and it accommodates Arca-Swiss mounts such as the new scope I bought. No issues there. The one thing I wish Vortex would have done is place a scale on the lower extendable legs of the tripod. I have other tripods that do, and I have found it very user friendly to have those scale numbers, while trying to level my tripod in simplistic ways inside a ground blind. The tripod also comes with a storage bag which is a nice touch for out of season. Keeps everything in one place. Bottom line. The scope is leaps and bounds beyond my previous Diamondback. I honestly believe it is the last spotting scope I will ever buy. I could not ask for more in this purchase. Plus, a lifetime guarantee. The tripod is a great upgrade to what I have owned previously. If it had graduation numbers on the lower legs, it would be perfect. But having said that, it will be many, many years before I would consider any kind of upgrade.

The head on it isn't very smooth and takes a ton of finagling to get the scope to stay where you actually want it.

Works great no problems but you will want the lighter weight material version from the metal alloy I ordered if you are carrying for long distances such as back country.

I got this for hunting and have been super impressed with the stability using them for glassing and also to hold my rifle. Seems overbuilt in the best possible way. Hopefully this holds up.

I have used this product for my Athlon Optics spotting scope and works really well. It is very easy to use and attach the spotting scope. I intend to use this product for elk hunting and the rifle range. This is my first tripod and I would highly recommend it to any beginner. It is very lightweight and durable.

This is a must have for hunters. I saddle stand hunt and have never found a need for a tripod, until I had kids. I purchased this for my 3 year old son to assist him while hunting. Since then I've found how versatile this support is. I use it sighting rifles in, target practice, teaching my son about firearms it's amazing. I have since opened up my horizons and started ground hunting hog. I've even used it during turkey season this year. It's packable, portable, supportable, durable, dependable and versatile! If you hunt slopes, ridges or elevation changes this will set up to support you! I look forward to future adventures with Vortex!

I have mounted spotting scopes and rifles on this tripod. Works great with everything i throw at it. Im 5'11" so getting one that would get up to a comfortable viewing / shooting height was important to me. This one fit the bill. Light weight (for the material its made out of) and very stable. Would highly recommend.

This budget friendly tripod held steady when my 220 pound machine gunner buddy decided he needed to use my tripod I use for glassing to make a shot? copying us he stands it up then proceeds to lean in to "take out the slop" of the tripod this is when I realize he has his feet kicked back and he looks like MJ leaning over. This tripod bearing the weight of a chassis rifle and 220 pound of all American beef held steady enough for him to shoot a string and return to playing in the dirt? 10/10 approve of this bad Larry!

It is light enough to hike in and out while hunting. I use it to mount my spotting scope using the Arca Swiss adapter. I can then tighten the head and switch to a shooting V if need be. If you're looking for something lighter for more money then more power to you. For me it's plenty light enough and very sturdy, I can lean some weight and rest my rifle on this without feeling like it will break.

This tripod is easy to use and lightweight allowing for backcountry hunting trips. It is rugged too, holding up against bangs and drops in the high country like a champ. I recommend pairing with the Diamondback HD Spotting Scope also made by Vortex.

Provides excellent performance. I have used this tripod for both hunting, nature viewing and long distance photography. It is incredibly stabil and allows for use on very uneven terrain. It is on the heavy side, but so long as you plan your packing list for your other items, it is quite manageable.

This tripod is very versatile, I have used it for a spotting scope and binos during hunts. Lightweight and portable, tall enough to use standing but collapses enough to use in a sitting position as well.
