I wanted a light box to view my negatives but it needed to be small because I have a small darkroom and space is limited. This light box Is the perfect size for my needs and illuminates my negatives nicely.

Yes it works. BUT…. And it’s a big but… Waaaaaaayyy too expensive for what it is. Couldn’t it even come with an on/off switch? Ridiculous price at almost 200.00. Next time I make this exact one but better with the on/off switch. Would never recommend this at this price. Its a joke.

The Porta Trace Gagne 8x10" LED ABS Plastic Light Box is just what I needed for a personal project reviewing, sorting, and eventually scanning a large number of mounted 35mm slides. The smooth white plastic top is evenly illuminated and the box becomes only slightly warm after long use. The unit is compact, lightweight, and easy to store when not in use. The only deficiency I've noted is I wish it had an on/off switch built in. As it stands, the small AC adapter (permanently attached to the cord) must be unplugged from power to turn the lights off. Otherwise, just what I wanted at a very affordable price.

This unit is the right size to lay out several strips of negatives to examine closely before scanning or printing. The light is even, manufacturing is simple plastic, but works excellently. For those who are still using negatives whether as direct prints or for digitizing through a film scanner it is a good tool. Anyone still working with negatives Will find this unit very easy to work with and can be set upon a desktop.

I purchased this to illuminate medium format negatives to be captured with a camera and inverted in Photoshop. The color temperature is somewhere between 6000 - 7000K which does a nice job. The light distribution is very even.

Great light box, only wish I could get one a bit smaller for my work bench use. We only use this for examining small optical inverters for night vision image intensifiers. Two inches thick by 12" x 12" would be ideal size for us. The LED is much brighter than the old fluorescent light box we used to use, and defects are much easier to see.
