bad focus ring

This product didn't last long. The focus ring slipped and doesn't quite work anymore.

Great value

So far I'm happy with this lens. Just recently purchased an SL system with the 24-90 and the 90-280, and this seemed like a necessary third for what I like to shoot. I've only used it once but put it through a pretty thorough test of portraits, low light, wide open, etc. In my experience, the images are sharp, though I've read some other reviews on other sites to the contrary. I don't think it's ever going to compete with a Noctilux, but obviously it's a fraction of the cost. Excited to use it.

Amazing

This lens is sharp, especially when stopped down. I found the bokeh to be acceptable and the lens to be quite fun to use. definitely a good value for money, if you want a fast 50 without buying a noctilux

Excellent performer at a great price

It doesn't get any better than this lens at this price point. The lens is a little soft wide open, but that's to be expected and just gets better and better as you stop down. I highly recommend this lens to anyone looking to get an amazing lens that's fast and sharp. I currently use it on my Sony a7.

Great value for solid, very fast lens

FWIW, the F/1.1 is two thirds of one f/stop faster than an f/1.4. I knew that when I bought it. That makes a difference to me and it's a real asset on the Leica M9-P I own. Leica doesn't push ISO speeds all that high compared to Canon, Fuji and others. It just produces superb images. So do my Canons and Fujis, but there is a quality which sets Leica apart. (I'm NOT recommending you run out and buy one. It also works well on the assorted M film bodies and there you really don't want to be trying to push film faster than you have too. I also like the quality of the images generally. There's a nice bokeh. The lens is a bit soft wide open, but it compares well at that speed to other superfast lenses I've used. Stopped down a bit, it's much sharper. It's probably best from 2.8 through about f/8. Not much complaint after that, but the primary improvement there is depth of field. Love the paper thin DOF. For people who've used only zooms, there is a unique pleasure in the images of some primes. This is one of them.

Super fast and built like a brick

Very thin DOF when fully opened up, which can make this fussy to focus especially in low light. Minimum focus distance is around 3 feet, to get closer requires an extension tube. This is a super well constructed lens, on the heavy side compared to other Voigtlander M-mounts. Overall quality, in construction and optics, compares favorably to a Canon L prime lens. This lens is well-suited for my Sony NEX-7, mounted with an adapter, and although relatively large it isn't disproportionate to the camera's body. The focus peaking on the NEX-7 allows for precise focusing.

Too heavy for the little amount of speed

This lens performed well, but was too heavy and not much better in low light than a f1.4 lens.

great lens for the money!

great lens, unless you are pixel counting, don't listen to people saying is too soft. big! great built. and fun to shoot. i mostly do street, reportage shooting and while i could not beleive how it absorve light. it slowed me down to take pics fast at larger apertures

awesome lens- some quality issues

Pros: its a 1.1 , awesome build quality, build like a tank, smooth focusing, included lens hoodPeople buy this lens for the the bokeh....not as good as a summilux, but quite close to the pre-asph lux. Those who cant afford leica- buy this lens.. I was one of them. I mounted this on my olympus EPL-1 with an adapter. cons:- my issue with the lens was the focusing ring, after a week of usage- the focus ring was loose. [...] gave me a new lens...which had the same issue. Perhaps it was a batch issue... Many users have faced the same problem with this lens. But besides this, there is very less that I can complain about this wonderful lens.

Voigtlander Nokton 50mm f1.1 Leica M

I have always wanted a fast 50mm lens that I can use in low light on my micro 4/3 camera. With an adapter this lens fits my need perfectly. It is reasonably sharp at f1.1 and gets even better between f1.4 AND F8.0. Focusing is very smooth. It may not be a Leica Noctilux but for me this lens is my Noctilux at a price I can afford. Its performance is par-excellent!

Portrait lens for micro four thirds.

As this lens acts as a manual focus 100mm lens for micro Four Thirds my only problem is that while I can focus OK, but I am still a little slow. As soon as I practice some more I believe it will do what I want. Very small depth of field wide open, but that is to be expected with an f1:1.1 lens

About Voigtlander 50mm

PRO REVIEW by Jose Tutiven, Photographer, Videographer and Producer

"Got this lens as a second option for my Leica M-240 body. It's definitely a preference, and I personally enjoy the magical vintage "glow" that blends with the depth of field. It’s hard to nail the sharpness when it’s wide open, but personally I love that challenge, because when you do nail it, it’s a very film-like magical image. It’s a fun and simply stunning lens for the cost, especially if you try it out in low-light situations. "
