Viltrox AF 35mm f/1.8 STM Lens for Sony E

I was very skeptical about using a Viltrox lens and the image quality that it could render. After seeing a couple buddies use the lens, I figured I would give it a try. Surprisingly it is a very good budget option. I tested it out on a creative shoot I had with one of my models and the images were tack sharp with amazing color, almost as good as my Z lenses. After gaining faith in this lens, I decided to use it on some natural light graduation sessions and the lens operated flawlessly. The build quality is not as good as Z glass "S" lenses but feels far from cheap. I do not use the aperture ring on the lens, as I prefer to control it via the aperture dial on my camera body, but i does add a little more detail and interest when compared to the plain appearance of the native lenses. The Viltrox lineup of Z mount lenses offer new shooters and hobbyists with a reliable budget option to the more expensive native lenses. I wouldn't mind having the entire set of Viltrox Z mount lenses for travel and creative shoots. That way, I can leave my more expensive lenses at home and still know that I will get amazing results, and have a peace of mind knowing that my bank account will not hurt as bad if I lose or damage the lenses.

While I've only had this lens for a little over a week, I can say that it is amazing. I've only used it on one shoot, and it has produced some sharp images, but still has some character to it. The auto focus and eye detect works quite well, and the lens is so quite that it surprised me, when I first attached it. I'm still new to the Z mount and haven't used any of the high end glass, but how quite and quick it is wild. As long as you are not going to be in dusty or quite wet areas, I highly recommend picking one up.

After talking to a fellow photographer at WPPI 2022 about what he thought about this lens, he said ?take a look and check out it out for yourself? I tried his Nikon Z6 II with the lens attached, I was so impressed by it, the day I got home I ordered one from Adorama. I tried it out a few days ago, it?s definitely a portrait photographers game changer at half the cost of the native Nikon lens. I absolutely love the results.

AF is really good and lens is sharp. When compared to the Rokinon 35 1.4 this lens is on par with sharpness and outperforms it with really good AF. Only Con is a heavy vignette. With the immense weight savings on my arm and in my bag, this lens wins a spot in my bag.
