Questions & Answers

Paul S : Will this work with a Sigma 150-600mm lens on a canon m50 mkii?EDGAR A : If the Sigma lens is designed for an EF mount camera, then yes.DENNIS C : It should work if it's a EF mount. I don't think it works with EF-S mounts.KATHY W : This did not work for my sigma 16 that works on my canon M50 - this works for my canon lenses with the EF mount. Hope that helpsDENNIS C : It should. I use a Tamron lens with the Mark 1 model and it works fine. One strange issue: When I have a non-Canon lens attached to the M50, the lens continues to draw power from the camera even when OFF. I have to remove the battery when it's not in use. Not sure if it's a defect in my camera, or a known Canon bug.
Wilfrid F : Can I use this adapter for Canon 5D mark iii and lumix Panasonic GH5?
LOBSANG R : So it will connect on one end to serie M lens and on the other end F series lens?

Necessary accessory for M50 cameras

If you own a Canon M50 or any interchangeable lens cameras in that family, you need this as there are not an acceptable number of EF-M mount lenses. This will allow you to use older, high quality EF lenses with your newer M-series cameras.

A great hack to expand your M50 lens range

This is a simple, straightforward, and decent priced solution to expand your Canon M50 lens range. I recently picked up the M50MKII and this adapter has come in handy for my nifty fifty 50mm. I have a Canon adapter as well but use that for vlogging with my 10-18mm, so this adapter does not cut out much of the focal length. Fast shipping, great packaging, and great price from Adorama!

Good for Canon, bad for other brands

Looks like I give the lowest review so far. This adapter does have some advantage to it. It helps me take full advantage of my full frame Canon lenses: Prime 50mm and Zoom 70-200. However, it doesn't work well with the Tokina SD 11-16 F2.8 (IF) DX II or the Tamron SP 17-50 f/2.8 DiII. They mount and will take pictures with speed improvement to f/2, but you see the outer edges of the lens. Though these are my wide angle lenses, I think it might have more to do with their not being Canon that is the problem. They also were listed as "working" on the specs. Buyer beware! I would still recommend it for Canon lenses. It will add versatility.

Awesome speed booster!

Great product. Having an extra F-stop when converting to an EF lens is a huge bonus. Sped boosters works seamlessly with the Canon EOS M50. Would highly recommend this product.

Must have!

Running this adapter with my Canon M50, and a EF 50mm f/1.8 Lens. Helps me take outstanding portraits with some beautiful bokeh, helped by the speedboosters ability to bring aperture to f/1.4. Sacrifices some sharpness but overall a great product. Only issue I had was with the adapter lock, it was just a bit loose but hasn’t gave me any issues. Locks on perfectly, just a bit of play on the lock.

Perfect for Canon M50 users and Sigma 'DG' lenses

First and foremost I'm mainly writing this post to answer a common question about what lenses will work, especially with Sigma lenses. This mount is meant for a regular EF mount lenses, NOT EF-s types, which any Sigma that has 'DC' in the name is an EF-s type mount and 'will not work'. A Sigma with 'DG' in the name is a regular EF mount type and will work as intended. DO NOT ATTEMPT to try and self-engineer an EF-s to the mount, its possible but it will most likely cause PERMANENT DAMAGE to both the lens and Viltrox mount/internals and most likely void all warranties you may have. Now as for the mount itself, my first EF type lens that I purchased to use with this adapter was a used Sigma 24-35mm f/2 DG HSM Art in Excellent condition to slap it on a M50 and see how far I could push the camera's abilities at a cheaper overall price for a full film setup. So far it has been flawless. First off the adapter actually pushes the f/stop from f/2 to f/1.4, so even better low light and bokeh, and on the M50 at 24fps w/ a 1/50 shutter with a small ambient ceiling light and Falcon F7 as key light i cant get perfect exposure at a ISO of 200. Pairing this lens and mount on the M50 is also like having more than 4 lenses because of the crop when shooting 4K. In FHD I pretty much get a 27mm-40mm full frame and in 4K it equates to 43-63mm. In both situations I'm getting crystal clear images and no problems with vignetting whatsoever. More EF-M lenses have come to market but at the price point you have save hundreds still by matching this adapter with more afforble but still great quality glass for the price.

Quality piece would buy viltrox again and again

Amazing piece of machinery! The attachment fits directly on any EF lens and the other side fits on your M camera flawlessly. The additional focal boost of 0.71x allows the image to achieve closer to full frame status without the all the hard work! I have a 50mm 1.8x lens attached 100% of the time and the portraits and the cinematic shots are to die for. The autofocus is just as good and you don’t even notice you are using an adapter!

It's magic!

Not only does it maintain the correct zoom range for my full frame lenses, but I get an extra stop! Makes working in low light fun.

Glass has spiral distortion around the edges, expect to crop

I am using this adapter with a Canon EOS M50 and Tamron 70-200mm f/2.8 G2. While this works as a speedbooster, the 0.71x definitely causes some circular blurriness around the edges of the image. This isn't a huge deal if not landscapes, and can honestly improve some "bokeh" of some images. I honestly prefer the look of photos shot with just the EF-M to EF adapter (that has no glass/speedboost).

Get this. Seriously. Right now.

This is an absolute necessity for Canon EOS-M photogs. A bit soft in the corners and slows down AF a bit, but having a near full frame crop, gaining a stop, and use of EOS compatible lenses makes it 100% worthwhile.

Consistenly Great Product

Used this adapter for my Canon EOS M50 to attach a Canon 50mm f1.8. It worked great with no issues and created some incredible photos and video. Some people have a problem with the battery draining faster when the Viltrox speedbooster is attached but my solution around this is to just keep the battery out of the camera until I need to start shooting in the day. I usually don't really notice as battery issues.
