Just as good as a ($) flash. The flash does everything it should. I wish their manual had a little more information on how to use the flash. Other than that I'm very pleased.

For the money, this unit is amazing! Used Vivitars years ago, and when my Nikon SB-600 died, thought I'd try this unit. Larger than the Nikon, but works GREAT!

The Vivitar Series 1 DF-372 Power Zoom AF Flash is a fully automatic, system-dedicated shoe mount flash. It features full TTL support for Nikon digital SLR cameras. The bounce, zoom, and swivel head will give you more creative opportunities with your shots. The ten-position power zoom covers focal lengths of 18mm, 24mm, 28mm, 35mm, 50mm, 70mm, 85mm, 105mm, 135mm and 180mm. The head tilts at 0degrees, 45degrees, 60degrees, 75degrees and 90degrees intervals, and it swivels 270degrees horizontally for complete lighting control.
The power level of the flash output can be set manually from full-power down to 1/128th. The flash includes a built-in slave function which allows it to be positioned off-camera, and triggered by any second flash. A red focus beam will help you achieve focus in low light conditions, and power saving circuitry incorporates an auto-off element, giving you more battery life. The incorporated flash reflecting plate creates beautiful soft lighting which greatly improves your images. The wide angle diffuser can be used to further soften and increase the coverage of light from the flash. Red-eye reduction will prevent your flash from reflecting off your subjects eyes.
