Vixen Sphinx SX Counterweight Shaft Unit.

The counterweight shaft is stored inside the Sphinx SX Mount for convenience. Various SX Counterweights are available, They are used for counter-balancing, on the Sphinx Mount to avoid accidental tip-over's. The counterweight shaft allows you to balance the Sphinx SX Mount on a wide range of optical tubes. For using the mount with heavier optical tubes, additional counterweights are used.
