Enhance your audio recording experience with the WA-251 Large-Diaphragm Tube Condenser Microphone, a modern rendition of a classic microphone design. This microphone is meticulously crafted to deliver the legendary sound of the iconic '251 microphone, making it a perfect choice for a wide range of applications, from professional studio recordings to live broadcasts.
The WA-251 is an all vacuum tube, large diaphragm, transformer balanced, multi-pattern, large condenser microphone. It's inspired by the classic '251 microphone, renowned for its contribution to countless hit records over the past five decades. This microphone is versatile and performs exceptionally well on a variety of sound sources, including vocals, acoustic/electric guitars, bass, drums, piano, strings, brass/woodwind instruments, and more.
The original '251 microphone gained immense popularity as a vocal microphone in the 1960s and is still highly sought after in professional recording studios. However, its rarity and high cost make it inaccessible to many. The WA-251 microphone successfully emulates the classic '251 sound, offering a high-quality, affordable alternative.
The WA-251 features an all-brass, edge-terminated WA-12-B-60V capsule that replicates the smooth, rich top end and warm vintage sonics of the original CK12 capsule. The capsule's diaphragm is 24k gold sputtered 6 micron, NOS PET film (mylar), delivering a consistent, reliable sound that matches the frequency response and tonality of the classic 1970's capsule.
The heart of the WA-251 is a Slovak Republic JJ 12AY7 vacuum tube, selected for its tonally smooth and vintage nature. This tube, in combination with an American made CineMag USA transformer, provides a present top end and a large bottom end, characteristic of a 251-style condenser microphone.
The WA-251 also boasts high-quality components such as polystyrene coupling capacitors, wima film capacitors, and an imported Solen French capacitor on its output. These components contribute to the overall sound quality and performance of the microphone.
The 7-pin cable, often overlooked in tube microphones, plays a crucial role in the WA-251. We've partnered with Gotham Audio in Switzerland to use their high-end 7 pin "GAC-7 cable". This premium cable enhances top end presence and the overall size of the recorded image in the stereo field, reducing phase shift and the parasitic effect often experienced in poorly built cables.
In conclusion, the WA-251 Large-Diaphragm Tube Condenser Microphone is a modern classic, offering a rich, vintage sound at an accessible price point. It's a testament to our commitment to providing high-quality, affordable audio equipment to the new generation of recording artists.
