They work!

They arrived fully functional and tested fine. I'm using them in an unraid server but haven't completely put them through their paces quite yet. If they seem to have a problem, I'll try to update this review.

Defective device.

I purchased a WD ssd drive. After I received it, I reformatted it for Mac OS. Now I can't access it with me MacBook or iMac thru the usb ports. I tried using the disk utility, and it couldn' recognize it. The red light lights up but the unit is undetectable.

Great drive for NAS

I researched reviews of a number of different brands for my NAS and the Western Digital drives were rated highly. Adorama provided a competitive price and quick delivery.

Trying out WD hard drives

The last brand of hard drives for my NAS lasted roughly 5 years. Apparently that is the "average" life span. Going to try Western Digitial Red Plus drives to see how they perform.

Wanted a robust & reliable drive for bulk storage in a PC and this line of HDDs delivers all of that. Price was excellent and delivery (directly from WD) was much faster than expected.

Quiet and Dependable

This drive has been reliable, and while it still makes noise is overall the quietest HDD I've ever encountered (WD Red Plus 12tb).

TrueNAS Server Build Using WD Red Plus

I just built a TrueNAS server using an older PC that is no longer supported for Windows. I had only one HDD, so I needed three identical hard drives to build a RAID stripe. The WD Red Plus were highly recommended. I purchased three and am impressed with how quiet and vibration-free they run. Even after removing the PC's front bezel I can barely hear the drives spinning. I'm closely monitoring the drive temperature. These are 10GB drives that run at 7200 RPM, so they probably run a little hotter than a 5400 RPM drive. In my environment the drives run just above 40C. Removing the front bezel didn't change the drive temperature, but it did lower the CPU temperature. I've already begun building a second TrueNAS server and plan to use the WD Res Plus drives there as well.

Should have lasted longer

These were okay for about a year. Installed both in a RAID so that I could mirror my images onto the second drive. About a year in one drive started making a dreaded start-up noise. Replacing with a cloud workflow because I can tell one if not both of these will be not able to start up or read soon.

DOA. Replacements for new drives are recertified

1 of 2 drives I ordered were DOA. Purchased this drive on sale. Had to re-order at higher price because if I exchanged they would only give me a recertified drive

Will not do that again

Product arrived in damaged shipping box, with the drives loose in the box bouncing around, flimsy spacers, turns out missing one of the drives. May have fallen out of the box. But, WD wouldn't refund me. This was one day expedited shipping.

Ignore the bad reviews, packing materials are good

These are as good as I hoped. The bad reviews about sketchy shipping can be ignored. This may have been a thing in the past, but I just got two 12 TB drives in the mail today, and the packaging was awesome. Drives were individually sealed in ESD bags, and were "suspended" with plastic shock-absorbing spacers in individual thick cardboard boxes. Those boxes were packed in a larger cardboard box with "air pillow" packing materials to prevent the individual boxes from moving around.

WD DOA

I was replacing a WD 4TB Red with the same Drive. I could not get my Synology to recognize the drive. I even took out all my drives and put the new drive in different slots, but it still did not recognize the drive. I put all the old drives back in and it recognized them all. Now I still need to replace the one drive taking errors. Customer Service was easy, once I found the number to use. The website asked for the Order number, which did not work. The Customer Service agent asked for the same thing and when I provided it to him, he said that was not the Order Number (even though on the paperwork it specifically showed that). It looks like they wanted the customer PO number and he was able to find the purchase. From there the return was easy, they refund your money and don't replace the drive. So any discounts/sales will be lost on purchasing a new drive from them.

Do no buy

When you buy two new drives and after 5 days you finally receive them make sure to look them up. They sell used drives or refurbished drives as NEW. I am talking about not a replacement drive. NEW from there store they sell refurbished as NEW. How they are getting away with this is behind me. That's right folks I'm not talking about a year later. I'm talking about literally buying a brand new drive from them brand new in their store buying two drives well over $400 and they refer and on top of that the two drives I got neither one of them work, so it's a process to send that crap back to Western digital And they wanted to try to send me a new pair referred drives. I don't think so pal. I'm within 30 days. I'm sending your trash back for a full refund because you're selling me garbage. Do yourself a favor do not buy them.

worst RMA and customer service experience ever

just as the previous reviewer stated, "unacceptable customer service and business model" i also ordered 2 drives. and one of the drives worked, the other was DOA. the chat feature with WD leads me to think they outsource their support. definite language barrier. also had to push for a RMA even with a drive clicking continuously. they also wanted to charge me for shipping, and i declined and instead chose 2 day return shipping so i could get the drive back faster. i was set to drop it off at ups and pay for the shipping but when i was told by tech support that they will need my cell number or they cant deliver the drive after i send it in. no they do not need your cell number to deliver a box... so i sent off an email to their customer advocacy email and they decided to pay for RMA shipping. the drive was delivered on the 9th of july. they lied and said it was on the 17th. i have the proof with there very own tracking number stating the date and time of delivery as well as the person who signed for it. so i reach back out the 17th only to find that they have no clue whats going on, where the drives at, or if its even been fixed or repaired as i was told it was only a 5 to 7 day to fix, and then ship back a replacement drive. nope. its now the 24th and they still have no idea whats going on, no tracking number, no drive. oh and the best part was when the chat support sends an email finally on the 23 stating that im so lucky that im getting a replacement drive thats gonna be a 6 tb instead of a 4 tb, but the model numbers he listed are the VERY same exact drive, a 4tb WD red plus. trying to get answers from them is like pulling teeth, and you'll get plenty of "we're sorry for the inconvenience" but you wont get much support. ive even had to reach out to them on social media and still didn't get a response till yesterday, stating the same scripted apologies for the inconvenience but no actual answers or fixes. ive been buying WD drives for over 20 years for friends, family, and customers. but after this i'll be buying another brand. oh and when they say you can contact us by phone unless you are from india you'll have a real hard time understanding them as well as them understanding you. shouldn't take 5 mins to get an email spelled out so the chat support can get in entered correctly. Excellent Hard Drive for my NAS. It was recognized right away in my UGreen DH2300 and work flawlessly

Tackle Intensity with WD Red Plus
Packed with power to handle the small- to medium-sized business NAS environments and increased workloads for SOHO customers, WD Red Plus is ideal for archiving and sharing, as well as RAID array rebuilding on systems using ZFS and other file systems. Built and tested for up to 8-bay NAS systems, these drives give you the flexibility, versatility, and confidence in storing and sharing your precious home and work files.

For Small or Medium Businesses
Stream, backup, share, and organize your digital content with a NAS and WD Red Plus drives designed to effortlessly share content with the devices at your home or business. NASware 3.0 technology increases your drives' compatibility with your existing network and devices. For larger businesses with up to 24 bays, count on WD Red Pro drives to deliver exceptional performance.

Exclusive NASware 3.0
Not just any drive will do. Get 4TB of capacity in your 8-bay NAS system and with Western Digital's exclusive NASware 3.0 technology, you can optimize each and every drive. Built into every WD Red Plus hard drive, NASware 3.0's advanced technology improves storage performance by increasing compatibility, integration, upgradeability, and reliability.

Built for Optimum NAS Compatibility
WD Red Plus drives with NASware technology takes the guesswork out of selecting a drive. Optimized for NAS systems, our unique algorithm balances performance and reliability in NAS and RAID environments. Simply put, a WD Red Plus drive is one of the most compatible drives available for NAS enclosures. But don't take our word for it. WD Red Plus drives are a reflection of extensive NAS partner technology engagement and compatibility-testing.

3D Active Balance Plus
Our enhanced dual-plane balance control technology significantly improves the overall drive performance and reliability. Hard drives that are not properly balanced may cause excessive vibration and noise in a multi-drive system, reduce the hard drive life span, and degrade the performance over time.

24/7 Environment
Since your NAS system is always on, a reliable drive is essential. With an MTBF of up to 1 million hours, the WD Red Plus drive is engineered to tackle 24x7 environments.

Desktop Drives vs. WD Red Plus
Do right by your NAS and choose the drive purpose-built for NAS with an array of features to help preserve your data and maintain optimum performance. Take the following into consideration when choosing a hard drive for your NAS:

• Compatibility: Unlike desktop drives, these drives are specifically tested for compatibility with NAS systems for optimum performance
• Reliability: The always-on environment of a NAS or RAID is a hot one, and desktop drives aren't typically designed and tested under those conditions like WD Red Plus drives are
• Error Recovery Controls: WD Red Plus NAS hard drives are specifically designed with RAID error recovery control to help reduce failures within the NAS system
• Noise and Vibration Protection: Designed to operate solo, desktop drives typically offer little or no protection from the noise and vibration present in a multi-drive system. WD Red Plus drives are designed to thrive in multi-bay NAS system environments

Key Features

  • Engineered for optimal performance and reliability in small to medium NAS environments
  • Features Western Digital's exclusive NASware technology for enhanced performance
  • Designed for continuous 24/7 operation in demanding NAS systems
  • Optimized for lower Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) with power-efficient design
  • Equipped with RAID error recovery control for minimized failures in multi-bay NAS systems
