This company has become a joke. Bought one of these in 2024 took it out of the box and after chatting for over an hour to have tech support tell me what I already knew it was doa. Told to package up everything and send to wd for replacement. Weeks later receive a refurbished drive to replace a $200 new one that never worked. It gets better, the correct power cord wasn't sent because receiving didn't inventory the power adapter with the one I had to send. So now I have a $200 brick. Stay away and by something better from better.

The only thing I Don't like about these is the fact that you cannot store and play XBoX series X games on the drive. Just older ones will store and You'll be able to play them from external drive location.

Not for Optimized Series X/S Games!! Only works for other games. It's not fast enough to play from, expansion card is best bet.

Looks super cool, is fast, havent had long but my internal WD black drives have been reliable so hope this is too but IDK why but this thing is really really noisy! Sounds like sleet storm hitting metal outside! I would give 5 stars if it werent for all the noise.

I backed up my items. Everything was fine. Drive sat without any issues. Needed my backup and drive does t register at all. Sp much for a backup. Worse, its 3 years old (tho used only to create a backup. So how is that data protection?)

Unfortunately, the drive was delivered with loose pieces of plastic rattling around inside. Had to return for a refund.

This hard drive may be a little noisy when seeing the games you have in the library or when playing certain games but other than that its not bother some at all, to me at least. Fast as heck to i can get transfer speeds on my xbox series x almost to 2.0 Gbps. Charging ports are great as i use it for the headset and headphones to charge up with and is really a great product ive recently got a gaming pc and would love to really test its speeds and efficiency cause its definitely worth its price!

I have read reviews, reports of the WD_BLACK D10 Game Drive 8TB as running hot and being noisy. My WD_BLACK D10 Game Drive 8TB was purchased 11-22021 (It is 11-2023) and is not totally silent but is quiet by my standards. I've been involved in iT for several decades and know what a noisy drive is, this 'ain't it! Temps on my 2-year-old WD_BLACK D10 Game Drive 8TB are 98 to 107 degrees F at all times (The internal fan built in has never worked, but it's not any consequence since the drive sits atop a router cooler. It has been a reliable partner for storing and moving all variations and stages of AV files. So, Keep up the great work WD. To all those that experienced a one-off problem drive, WD will take care of you. Note: In over 20 years I replaced 'ONE' WD drive and WD had it to me next day freight; free of charge ...

It won't turn on after less than 2 months of having it. No option listed to return. Tried to contact customer support but they weren't open. Please, whatever you do, don't buy this item. It's not worth the savings in cost to lose all of your data.

Drive is really loud. I ordered two drives and both had plastic rolling around on the inside of the cases and both cases had the port/plug windows miss aligned

WD is of course much better than Seagate as far as reliability. This drive has plenty of storage, good cooling. I don't know what people are talking about with the noise. Only flaw is that drive does not shut off when you turn off the Xbox. The white seagate drive that was made for the xbox integrated much better, would turn on and off with the game console. Unfortunately, those seagate drives last about three years and then start to make those "death rattle" noises. Luckily, Microsoft has an excellent cloud backup for your games, much better than what Sony offers for playstation. So even when drive dies, you can restore everything easily. Get this WD drive on sale and you are probably good to go for a long time. I even swapped my WD Black over to my new Xbox X series and it works great.

Works great. Easy to set up with Xbox Series X. Does not take up too much space. Do not risk running out of storage for your games.

Check to see if what you ordered is correct and has you shipment has been properly filled. The shipment went out promptly and arrived in good shape. Western Digital lost focus on the fulfillment of order and shipped refurbished and not new product. I have edited my review to more closely meet WD guide lines.

Super CoooL look, sturdy case, and WOW performance! I'm averaging about 1.8 Gbps data transfer on XBOX Series X... nearly twice as fast as my standard spinny drives on the same platform. Drive can be configured for use on multiple XBOX devices and your console will prompt you to choose configuration on initial setup. Game play direct from this drive is flawlessly smooth when allowed... XBOX Series X is less accommodating than XBOX ONE in that regard so keep that in mind. I wish it had a power switch... I'm sure it sleeps but that would be nice. Great storage solution for the hundreds of games I have considering size and price... Thanks again WD... The only drives I ever use in all my builds and peripheral applications.

one thing wd does I don't like is they format this a a raid drive with multiple partitions to create a large drive this works for speed not data integrity use you windows disk management and delete all partitions on this drive and reformat as one large drive now if you're interface fails they all do remove drive place in computer everything is there and accessable

This is a great addition to the Xbox Series X. Although games enhanced for the console need to be installed to the internal HDD and/or a Seagate Expansion Card, it's nice to have them saved locally.

I've used my D10 for something like 2 years since ordering off of Newegg early on in the pandemic, and was very satisfied with the actual performance of the drive when using it as a secondary SteamLibrary unit. Allocating disk space during Steam game installs can either be instantaneous, semi-fast, or agonizingly slow depending on the type of storage media you're installing your game onto, and most HDDs tend to err on the agonizining slow slide of things--even the 7,200 RPM drives (especially the external drives) unless you've got a proper SATA setup going on. Suffice it to say, the D10 is nothing like other HDDs insomuch as Steam library installations go. Every install that I've put on this drive has been on the instantaneous/very-fast side of things, and when you're queueing up multiple games (especially if you've got several terabytes worth of titles you're interested in putting in your download queue) this seemingly simple difference in space allocation speed can literally shave as much as 30-60 minutes of waiting time off of your queueing process if you're lining up 30-40+ titles for download. Not to mention, faster write speeds and space allocation also means there's less of a hardware throttle/bottleneck on your download speeds; if you have 2.5GB fiber optic like me, this can mean the difference in as much as 50-100MB/s of download throughput per second. I have external SSDs (first generation, mind you) that are slower than my D10--this is one impressive HDD, and for the price its seriously hard considering buying anything else for the excellent performance. I got mine on sale during Black Friday for something like $79--that's a hair less than $10 per terabyte of storage. This is buy far the best price:performance ratio on any single piece of storage hardware (hell, maybe even just hardware in general) that I've ever paid for. The only disk better for my money that I've bought is my SK Hynix P41 2TB @ $139, and that's a Gen4 M2 clocking 7,000MBs both R/W that I was able to cop at a freakishly good Cyber Monday deal. So that's saying something. Unfortunately, I had to take off a star because I bought a brand new computer and with my new battlestation came a transition from Windows 10 to the new Windows 11. And now I can't get my new computer to read my D10 WD_Black drive at all, no matter which USB port I plug it into--I'm using an ASUS Crosshair VIII, so all my ports are 3.1 and 3.2. And it's not a Endpoints issue common with USB problems on Win 11; I've uninstalled all my other USB devices and left this the only one plugged in but it still won't be recognized by the explorer shell. If I plug it in to my Win 10 computer, however, it shows up just fine still. Talk about frustrating!! Sadly, I had to remove a star on the rating due to this serious compatibility issue, because I've downloaded all the suggested software and drivers/driver updates recommended in troubleshooting guides to zero avail. I'm keeping my fingers cross that it'll magically appear in explorer one day and I can once again enjoy this wonderful device. The performance difference while using these other spare external drives is massively noticeable when playing games, particularly when it comes to preloading textures and streaming cutscenes during gameplay. The D10 was smooth as butter and absolutely mellifluous, and now I'm having to deal with macro and microstuttering on the older external SSDs that I've been forced to replace my D10 with in the meantime, and it's an annoyingly disappointing nuisance. I just want my D10 back in action! :(

I bought the device on Black Friday on Amazon and opened up the box to find that the AC Adapter had two foreign plugs attachments and no US one. At the moment I can use this device and I paid over 300 dollars for a product that has missing parts! I have not gotten a correct response from WD and will change my response once fixed. Do not buy WD products!

It would be nice for a power saving function or if turned off when the Xbox turned off.

Re-certified unit works as good as brand new. Has been in use for archival stroage for about a month, and no issues so far. Very happy to get a discount on an excellent external drive.

These are some cheap terabytes. Plus it's transfer speeds are really quick. It does have it's on power cord. It also looks dope. I put little graffiti on it so it looks like an abandoned train car.

Contains a 7200 RPM, 256 MB Cache, Drive HGST HUS728T8TALE6L4 Inside. I was able to reach ~250 MB/s transfer speeds on my mac when transferring a large file from an SSD. Comes formatted as exFAT and works out of box for Mac, Windows, and some Linux distributions as well.

I think the physical aspects of this drive are pretty cool. Feels really sturdy, transfer rates and read write access is speedy . . . but it is LOUD. While it cranks away doing what it's doing, I find it distracting. The sound is not there all the time like when the drive is idle, but when it fires up it is LOUD. Loudest drive I've ever heard, really.

12TB Elements has limited software compatibility
By OldTooly
OK drive, mediocre speeds, does not work with WD software? Yes, does not support their WD drive utility which allows for setting or disabling the sleep timer. A real pain when the drive requires 15 seconds to re - startup every 1/2 hr. of idle time, increased pc boot and shutdown times. If the software worked with it, this is no longer a problem. But it's cheaper.
Awesome product!
