Glad I went with refurb. Good as new!
Works perfectly! No issues at all. Easily transfers media and runs Plex server.

Not an easy install on MAC
The Drive seems to work fine but the install on a MAC has issues. Not clean at all. I skipped the final steps as I couldn't get the extensions to install. Appears to work fine with Timemachine so far

Could not be Happier with this purchase!!
Easy to use and is fast well fast for me anyways have no problem with a big file to transfer to this HD. I do lots of music transfers and this unit is great for me..

Problems with the drive I received (12 TB My Book)
Unfortunately the drive I received here is a bum. From day one, it made loud grinding noises. My other drives do not make these noises. When I checked the drive, it didn't show errors so I checked the cords with alternatives I knew to be working well. The noise was not consistent so I attempted to load files. The files wouldn't show correctly as if they weren't loading onto the drive. When I closed the folder and reopened, they were there. This is also not normal behavior. I also noticed intermittent behaviors were the drive would load much slower than the rest (including another 12 tb with matching files). Sometimes taking 15-20 minutes (I'd give up on it loading and go do something else only to come back and it's loaded). It has caused disk utility to crash and I haven't had that happen before. DU only crashes or loads very slowly when this drive is connected. Sometimes the drive doesn't connect at all. I reached out for support but will likely have to exchange under warranty. I feel there is something not right and I have numerous WD EHD's, this one is not behaving normally. I have a concern of being forced into a refurbished option but my drive is only 2.5 months old and has had this problem since day one. I wish I'd gone with my gut for the exchange before the first 30 days. I am also concerned I will now have additional shipping costs despite that this drive was sent to me like this.

DECADES OF RELIABLE HARD DRIVES
We started using Western products for business in the late 1980's and had very few quality issues. Later in retirement we continued to use Western external hard drives as backup to our computer drives. In the last decade we began using the external hard drive for all things and no longer relied on the computer hard drive to backup of personal files. We have had only one Western drive unexplained failure some years ago so starting backing up on two or more drives. We still have that drive and when testes after sitting for more than five years it starting operating as if nothing was wrong. Unfortunately it did not last and when shut down would never boot up again. So we still trust in their product after many decades. However we also suggest you backup the backup.

MyBook 4TB external hard driver

Good External Drive
A large capacity external drive at a reasonable price. I purchased this drive as a second Time Machine backup drive for a Mac Studio Desktop computer. It is not as fast as my primary Thunderbolt drive pro, but I was surprised how much faster it was than my former usb 3 drives were. The power connection is inconsistent with some jiggline of the power plug into the drive, but I can get it to work. And the reasonable price of the refurbished drive is worth the slight power inconvenience.

I have 5 My Book external hard drives and this my 6th and 7th! I love them. I have had them for many many years and they are very reliable and easy to use. Price is great and I get good service too.

Ridiculously slow, maybe broken, no repair app?
Windows first told me there were errors.A couple of days later, WD Utilities App too. I can see my files but the quck and complete tests are failing. I bough the My Vook 8TB 6 months ago, and has been sitting on my desk since then.
Now what? There is no repair app? You can run diagnostics but what for, besides to jump ship and throw it out?

Great until it was no longer
I was initially very satisfied with the performance of this external hard drive due to its ample storage capacity, which allowed me to download a significant number of images. However, it has since ceased functioning, and I am uncertain about the cause of this issue. I would greatly appreciate a resolution, as the device represented a substantial investment of nearly $200.

So Far So Good
I have had a ton of WD drives on both Windows and Mac machines, and, for the most part, they have been great. Too early to tell how this WD 18TB My Book will fair. Recently, I had a 10TB drive fail in a MyBook Duo. Did not last near as long as previous drives. Did not replace the drive. Bought an enclosure for the 2nd drive and using it as a single now. Using the MyBook Duo enclosure as a way to route USB cables. :)

My Book for DISH movie transfers if Hopper's full.
I had an Elements, trying a My Book this time, since it was a free upgrade. I'm not sure if there appears to be a difference, but DISH movies are fine with the transfer for external storage. The DISH Hopper holds 7 TB. It's too bad there aren't any 7 TB external hard drives. They seem to be 6 and 8 TB.

Worst Product for the price!!!
Do not buy this . After a year it will randomly go out. I am having a constant issue with this crappy drive disconnecting and connecting. Save your money.

Such a "sleepy" hard drive
I read a lot of reviews about this particular hard drive and felt comfortable about my purchase. I am REALLY starting to regret it, though. This hard drive is incredibly slow. It seems like it goes to sleep. When I click to go into it, for some reason it takes several seconds for it to react. And even when I do get in, if I click another folder, it also takes a few seconds to react. I use this for my business (sometimes with clients right next to me), and it is embarassing to have to sit there and wait for this thing to react. :-/

Avoid WD! Failed after 3 months.
After only 3 months, the drive started making a grinding noise while spinning down. I contacted support and started the RMA process but I still have not received the replacement drive. Multiple support agents have told me conflicting stories. Some say the replacement has been shipped, and others say it is preparing for shipment. I will not be purchasing from WD again.
