WD makes great products and Adorama is a trusted supplier

I own three Mac computers and decided it was time to adopt a safe and convenient storage device. Western Digital has the right product choice and Adorama makes the whole process painless. Great job!

Limited UI and function. Slow transfer speeds.

The software that accompanies this device limits users' file access and options. In an effort to make it more user friendly, WD has ended up making it a headache for customers that want to use the device as an NAS. It has extremely slow transfer speeds and poor navigation.

Good once you get it set up

Documentation could be clearer. The instructions packed with the Mycloud told me to go to a web site. The site did not look like or behave like the documentation. finally figured it out. If your not a network geek, you will need to learn about attaching/mounting a network drive via Windows/MAC.

Faster than expected...

While transferring some large video files I was seeing speeds over 100 mbps. I believe that is faster than advertised. I am pairing this with the Asus AC68U router and I am very happy so far.

Overall very good

I use this as a backup MSD - and when I can connect, it works very well. Respectfully disagree with Chris about the noise - haven't heard any. The connection issue may well be a problem with my office's system - perhaps not enough security. On balance, a very good investment - you can kiss flash drives goodbye!

Not as bad as the other two reviews

I use this as network attached storage, I use dropbox for remote access to files, so I can't speak to how well it works for that. For attached network storage though it works just fine. One issue I had with the slowness of it was traced back to using it as an iTunes server - that process will indeed absolutely KILL the performance of the unit. It uses a ton of processor overhead to re-index iTunes, and given that its a relatively weak CPU, its not effective to use it for this method. The good news is it isn't required to use it to store your iTunes files; your Macbook can do the processing, and obviously has a much, much faster processor. This also runs linux, so if you're familiar with the command line you can just login to it and see what may be causing it to slow down (i.e. top). Make sure you update the firmware. I have had zero issues with it since I did so. I also use this as my main Plex share drive, and it works absolutely fine with 1080p 30fps files streaming to my Xbox One. I do have a pretty beefy router, and Plex does cost quite a bit of CPU time for said router, so if you are having issues with that, check the specs for your wireless router (I'm running an Asus RT-AC68U, which is more than capable). I have also not had any issues with setup. It's a very short manual, and took maybe 5 minutes to start moving files to it. There was a recent update for OSX that specifically addressed smb shares. I also would not use NFS to set this up - use SMB - for OSX it works way, way better, and that is on OSX, not on the drive. SMB works just fine on Android and Windows as well, so no reason not to do so.

A Glorified

Extremely slow to upload or download from. Even with direct connect from MyCloud to my Mac via ethernet cable. It is noisier than my other Western Digital "MyBook". This "MyCloud" sounds the same as any hard drive does just before it conks out. It has a scatter-brained installation, it is not plug and play. You still can't use Time-Machine while on the road. My old trusty 1TB MyBook does the same as this piece of garbage. I have been using MyBook as a cloud while on the road for years. What do you get? You get a very slow external 4TB hard drive for 200 bucks. That is it. The Western Digital advertisement is very misleading if not a right out lie. To say the least, sadly I am very disappointed with WD. They have lost my trust with them after years of buying hard drives with them. I have to say that all my Western Digital hard drives still work while all my Iomega hard drives went belly up.
