Very convenient little external portable drive with loads of capacity. I failed to do my homework only to discover it cannot function as a network drive. It only works as a directly connected drive. So it doesn't do what I wanted, but it will suffice for the immediate future.

Leaving for a month-long, overseas trip in two days and was uploading all of the raw files on my SD cards to this drive and suddenly it stopped writing and said there was an error with the files. I have photos from the past year stored on here, including wedding clients, and now the drive will only work momentarily - not long enough t to transfer to a new drive. This is the last thing I needed to deal with before a trip and I'm officially done with Western Digital after this - between the Sandisk Extreme issues and now this (disk drives are old tech, seriously how hard is it to produce a functioning one), it's just not worth the stress and hassle.

This company stepped up to compete with Apple by providing an enticing discount and then pummeled Amazon by offering free shipping. Other than the fact it took a few weeks to get it, I'm very happy with my purchase! The tech support team is also very helpful.

I bought this garbage back in September of 2024 and it' has already stopped working in the middle of downloading images . This is the 2nd WD external hard drive that I've owned and will surely be the last. Don't waste your money!

I am a long time WD customer with multiple (a lot) of external hard drives, primarily this passport ultra in various storage sizes, My Book, My Cloud, and a few regular passports. I ordered this new 6tb passport ultra for mac and paid extra for next day delivery. The shopping cart indicated if my order was before 10 am PST that it would ship same day, otherwise it would ship next day meaning it would arrive no later than Friday (I ordered at 8 am PST on Wednesday). As of 2 pm Thursday this item has not changed status since 9 am Wednesday (an hour after my order was placed). I reached out for help and was given complete run around. I spent quite a bit of time trying to receive help via chat, asked to be escalated so I could determine if the item I paid extra to arrive by a certain time would actually make it or not. I was given the run around. I wanted to be sure b/c I still had time to make other arrangements but I'd spent over 200 dollars plus the extra shipping fees and it was concerning that there was no movement. I also discovered this item was out of stock (6tb) at all local retailers hence my concern. I was treated so poorly in chat that I tried to call and then had an agent who also gave me the run around twice and put me on hold for more than 17 minutes before finally letting me talk to escalations. I had to ask multiple times. Escalations confirmed the item was delayed and did not know why and did not have a time frame for delivery. Please not the chat agent had said it WOULD arrive so there is a discrepancy in correct information. I requested to cancel the order. I was put on hold again and when the agent came back he said he cancelled the order. I asked for written confirmation via email and he told me I would receive that in 10-15 minutes (I haven't) and that my money would be back on the card by "tomorrow" (Friday). I want to warn others before they purchase or expedite a shipment that this is how my request was handled and it became very frustrating and I felt I was not going to get the help I needed. I am not even sure I will get the refund. I am sure they can talk about me behind my back and call me names for my needs with this order but it all comes down to this. Customer service was awful, they had no idea what they were telling me was true or not, I felt they didn't want to help me and when I finally did reach escalation, the excuses were overwhelming and concerning which led to my cancellation. I liked these products and felt they have overall been good for me over the years but I can't see giving my money to a company who doesn't have professional and kind customer service, can't honor shipping times they set (hey things happen but just let me know and any other time I could have just waited but not this time)... then causes more drama and stress just to get the answers I needed that were so simple is mind boggling. I will not order again.

Easy to setup and use, right out of the box on my MacBook Pro. Excellent performance. Nice to have the included connector, too, so it can work with an older Mac that has only a USB port available. Well worth the very reasonable price for 4TB.

I had my last Passport Ultra for 9 years; it served me well. When I had technical problems a couple of times, the customer support team was very helpful to me in resolving the problems. When it got to the point that it was taking 2.5 hours to back up minimal changes from week to week, I decided to purchase another Passport Ultra for Mac. So far, so good - I'm very pleased! My new back ups take just minutes!

Less than 2 years old and mechanical failure. 3-year warranty doesn't cover data recovery and WD replaces your drive with a refurbished one that meets their "Stringent quality". Hmmm. I hope it's not as stringent as the one that just failed... Also, it was SLOW.

I needed to reach out to WD because my Mac would not see the hard drive. I needed to reach out to WD for troubleshooting and it needed to be reformatted. I use it only for Time Machine backups and it never leaves my desk. Since it is so soon in my owning of the HD, I am wondering about it's quality.

So I really upset with the product and brand. And I tried contacting with local Thai WD distributor. They sent me 2 new cables to use. Actually I used drive with WD cables with my other Macbook Pro, It worked well. But it couldn't work with my Macbook 12". I think problem may from MacOS and may from electricity power not enough to run drive. Please advise how to do. Because I usually use Macbook 12" majority , because light weight.

I'm using this WD 5TB My Passport Ultra for Mac on my iMac. So far, so good. Set up was as easy as plugging it in and selecting it to be my Time Machine drive. On the downside, it's replacing a 3TB WD My Passport that died.

There was essentially no instruction on how to connect the external drive to my Mac. I had to search and search to find the connection instructions in the System Settings/General/Time Machine file.

Nowhere to be found: RPM, cache and SATA specifications. 'Full Specifications' lacks this centrally relevant info and not even the extra effort of downloading the 'Data Sheet' rewards with any more hard facts on these drives. Have WD lost faith in their customers ability to make sound judgements hence decided to not burden the world with the dry facts?

Received the drive on 19September 2022 and set it up for Time Machine backups. It immediately began backing up and worked correctly for about two weeks. After that I was no longer able to mount the drive (in Disk Utility) and an attempt at First Aid failed. I tried my older MacBook Pro and got the same results.
