Worked good for 2 years then suddenly stopped.  Visited this website to find the manual but the manual isn't here.  The LED on the drive comes on for 1 second then turns off. A manual wold tell me if that was normal operation or if the drive is broke.  Drive cannot be read by Xbox or PC.

One of the best Externals I've bought.

Love the extra TB of storage. Not impressed with the speed. Says up to 900 MB/s. Mine won't go above 160. It takes 25 minutes to transfer a 53GB game. No one wants to wait 25 minutes for a game to transfer in order to play. The reason I bought this one, which is $40 more expensive than the HHD, is because it was supposed to be lightning quick. I'd just assume wait in the queue and play on the cloud if I have to wait that long. Will be returning and spending the extra $30 to get the actual Seagate storage expansion.

Doesn't run even close to 900 MB/s.

i bought this used off of eBay and a month later, it still runs okay. not sure what the "lag" review was referring to, but i haven't experienced any lag or game performance issues while using this drive. 

was going to buy the Seagate 2TB expansion card until i realized how utterly expensive it was. 

overall, this is a good substitute. and yeah, it is a bit disappointing that you can't play XBSX games straight from the drive, having the ability to store them is a great convenience.

pretty good for the money

I realized shortly after receiving my product that I didn't need it. I tried calling the the phone number on there website for returns. I called many many times and my call was never answered. In fact after several ring the call was disconnected. I have been able to get through. Now I'm stuck with a product that I donhave any use for. I'm very frustrated with this process and will never purchase from them again. I was very excited to purchase from WB because of their partnership with Xbox. Unfortunately, because of this experience I will go elsewhere for my storage needs.

It's actually a wd blue nvme inside being made to look like wd black do not purchase this it lasted for about 6 months before it quit

Love this little hard drive. 5 stars because it's just as fast as the internal and you can install all your xbox series games on it without worrying about uninstalling for space reasons

Horrible slow did not change anything speed wise every one of my friends have the Amazon  version speeds as fast as a ps5 this wd black does not do what it says it can do! Will jot recommend this to anyone waste of my money!

Horrible slow not worth having

I tried to format as Extended Storage but it says "cannot format  this USB storage device as extended storage. A USB storage device that meets the following conditions must be used."
? USB 3.0 or later
? 250 GB, 8 TB maximum capacity
? Directly connected to the PS4

Great little drive I LOVE this thing.  The only thing is that you can't play the newer x/s games from it but you can store them... A bit frustrating

Great for storage...but

I bought it brand new and used the cable that came with it, but it doesn't give me an option to format and said it was too slow. I'm going to have to go find and purchase a 3.0 usb cable to even see if it will work.

Can't use for games out of the box

I bought the WD - D30 2TB Game Drive for PlayStation last year, it was good for playing PS4 games and storage for PS5 games. however yesterday it stopped working completely. I have lost all my games. I am very upset about this. This is unacceptable!

Don't buy for PS5 Stopped working! Lost all games!

After buying this drive and running it on new console (series x xbox) I have had literally ZERO problems from the drive and I've seen transfer speeds quoted by xbox system that are faster than the quoted max speeds!!
Now here's the thing , the series x needs much higher speeds to run series x/s native games than it does to run older xbox one titles or new titles that are not enhanced for series x/s. So you must install these games on the internal SSD. Any external drive , no matter how fast will (according to the console) not be fast enough to run these enhanced games directly off the external drive. However ANY game that isn't marked SERIES X/S definately WILL run directly off the external drive perfectly well. (Some titles marked X/S can manage to but not many, always worth a try ,it won't hurt , the console will just say " drive not fast enough ) 
Now this means if you want dozens and dozens of enhanced x/s games on your system at the same time and you run out of space you CAN transfer a game to and from the external WD BLACK drive , shifting the one you want to play onto internal and moving one you won't want to play for now onto the external. A bit annoying yes but STILL much much faster than downloading over the net etc. Even with a 1TB Internet line from virgin media(uks fastest) you rarely see over 700mbps and often much less(@400mbps-600mbps).
Transferring files from internal xbox to the wd black I have seen anything from 2.35GBps down to @400MBps depending on file sizes but I would say it averages at much higher,  1.5GBps would be my guess. 
If it's a small game of 1 or 2 Gb it seems to fly accross from one drive to another and of the game is a huge 100 Gb or more it might start the transfer at 2.3Gbps and slow down in places to 400mbps or jump back up to 1Gbps, it's hard to really know what it will do. But this is down to whether there are thousands of small files or 1 huge data file that needs to be gathered up and pasted accross (at least that's my guess ??)

ALL I know is this. this little 500gb ssd is amazingly fast when it's asked to be fast. And it's faster than my virgin 1TB Internet download speed (and that's pretty damed quick).
I've seen reviewers in here saying "my xbox said this drives too slow" talking like this is WDBlack SSDs fault and it simply isn't. 
This drive performs well and has been flawless even when filled to 96%capacity or down to 30% and back again. I've used it to transfer huge 100GB games to amd from my xbox Internal drive and from as far as I can tell there's been ZERO errors! No game has been swapped and subsequently failed to work, none have ever slowed down to a crawl during swaps which I have seen happen with my other older HDD 4TB drive which I used to back up some games. 
This little SSD has convinced me that SSDs are without doubt the way to go for the future. Once the larger sizes like 4TB are more affordable I think it will see an end to HDD forever. And btw another thing, I knocked my SSD drive onto the floor and thought "oh no that's gotta be broken" because I'm so used to an accident like that breaking any old HDD I've had but it didn't do anything. It's carried on working flawlessly which is another great feature when you have solid chips storing the data in SSDs and not delicate spinning discs like HDDs.
If you own a console, you need a bit more space, you can't afford , or don't want to pay over £100 or more to expand your storage but STILL want a fast way to keep more games 'at the ready' to swap back and forth or keep older generation titles ready to play on to save space in your even faster running INTERNAL drive. This is a GREAT choice.
I have not regretted buying and using mine. 
So much so in fact I'm now eyeing those lovely P50 WD SSD drives with their EVEN FASTER USB-C 3.2 gen 2 connections!! 
In case you don't know this D30 WD SSD we are talking about is a USB-C 3.2 gen 1 connection which in theory has a limit of 10GBps transfer speed , the gen 2 version should allow 20GBps max transfer.
If I knew that new P50 drive would be DOUBLE the speed of the old D30 I might consider getting one ??. You just need to do your homework to find out, though the whole USB-C thing is VERY confusing. There's like 4 or 5 versions/generations to choose from!!

This game drive is a lifesaver for me! My Call of Duty game saved very easily to the drive . The drive has a  nice capacity and will last me for years I'm sure. Very easy to use and a set up. Anyone can do it!

A must have!

This is a great product. It was easy to install. My sons love it. They no longer have to delete games on their XBOX when they want to download a new one. And when you pay as much for the games as you do, you want to keep them. Works well and holds a lot.

Fast, Portable SSD

I am not an avid gamer, but I play a collection of games regularly. I recently hit the 500GB limit. I got the WD Black 1TB D30 for my Xbox and haven't looked back since. It's easy to install/use, and it is quick. I haven't experienced any lag time when playing games stored on it. I highly recommend this for the non-serious to the serious gamer.

Easy to install and use - highly recommend!

Great addition to my Xbox Series X. Super fast compared to other externals and works flawlessly. The drive itself is very small, it kind of looks like a little container box. It is so small and adorable. But i'm just so mind-blown on how fast this tiny thing is!! 100/10.

Xbox Game drive

My son just got the new Xbox series S for his birthday and immediately he was concerned with how much storage he had. This has been an instant game changer! It gave him a ton of extra memory and his graphics and load times are great!! It's not to big and comes with a stand so you can easily place it anywhere. It came with a month of game pass ultimate and a booklet that has all the info you need for set up and use plus contact info if you have issues. We are not super tech savvy and we were able to set it up and get it in use with no issues. If you have an Xbox I can't recommend this enough! Set up is so easy, you just plug it in with the cord they provided. It's a much better value than comparable products too.

Perfect addition to the Xbox Series S

If you're even remotely on the fence about getting this, don't be. It's absolutely one of the best things you can get for your Xbox. The actual improvements it gives are mind blowing. If you are like me and constantly dreading the next big game due to size, don't.

Literal game changer

If you're someone who games a lot this is literally perfect. Deleting games gets very tiring and this is the perfect solution to that. I probably wont get close to using the TB but at least I won't have to worry about using up all the internal storage on my XBox. It's very simple to use, my little boy had no issues with it. Navigation is just as simple as well. I have no complaints whatsoever about this product!

Great solution to an annoying problem

Works great!

This storage upgrade is just what I needed to add more space to my Xbox Series X. With new games taking up sometimes over 100 Gigabytes of memory, the storage on the console itself is not enough to store an large game library. This storage device has the ability to add storage for numerous games to the console without having to delete and redownload every time you want to play a new game. The storage device is aesthetically pleasing too!!! Must have for everyone with a Next

Must Have Storage Upgrade!!

We recently received a new XBOX and with my family playing multiple different games, we quickly needed more storage. This external game drive is easy to use, looks great next to our XBOX, and is exactly what we needed!

Better description would be nice, I assumed since it is advertised specifically for Xbox that it would work in unison.  You have delete a game and download from this storage device every time.  Works, but not what I was expecting.
