Questions & Answers

EDWARD B : Just wondering if this will work with the new Channel Master DVR 16 GB I purchased. The site says not all external drives are compatible though they did mention Seagate and WD..? Thanks..
Shopper : how many pictures, hd movies and songs can it store?JACOB E : A Bunch More then you can use!....ROBERT J : Don't know exactly how many, but many complete HD movies can be stored on it. It is a great way to have a collection of HD grade movies in your library without having to buy them on bluray disc. Dish Network allows for exporting content from almost anything they show - your pay channels, "cable" channels and over the air stuff too, like the Oscars and Grammys. All these things can be saved to be re-enjoyed at a later date or to show your friends memorable scenes from them. With Dish, the only thing you cannot export to a hard drive is On Demand selections.DAN K : WD markets reliable, affordable Hard Drives in progressive GB storage capacities. Your ?? Is difficult to answer because the capacity is determined by many factors including pixel count based on image quality, camera sensor size, etc. Only you can decide on an appropriate HD configuration. Given the overall minimal $$ of storage devices I suggest you buy the largest capacity you budget allows, download and back-up your images to multiple devices e.g. DVD's, flash drives, external hard drives, PC "C" drives and print for those keeper images. I am an advanced enthusiast photog and have yet to max out multiple 1 TB drives DJKBYRON T : That all depends on the sizes of your files, but, on the average, probably 50 HD movies, or, over 100,000 photos, or over 100,000 mp3's. It all depends upon the sizes of your files.YOHANES P : As many as you can as long as it is less than total 1 TB.DREW P : From a media standpoint, it all the depends on the individual storage size of pictures, movies, and songs. The types of media that have the highest memory capacity are movies, while photos and music have the lowest amount of memory capacity.ACCOUNTS P : I am unsure as to the number. First it would depend on the size of the photos, movies and songs you are storing. I have not run out of room yet on this HD. I have thousands of photos, probably hundreds of songs, hundreds of TV shows and movies. I am utilizing about half of the space so far. I am not a professional photographer however I rarely delete any photo and I use a 24GB DSLR camera for photoshoots. I mainly use this TB drive for backup storage of the photos, movies/TV shows and music. As a digital photographer enthusiast, I have thousands of photos dating back to about 2005 I took myself and probably about 2,000 to 3,000 more that I scanned in high resolution. Hope this helps.
M F : Can this be used for the XBOX One?GORDON C : You would have to ask someone else about this since I have no experience with Xbox one. Sorry....

Piece of Crap

Crap product, came in defective, hooked up to 2 computers and it would even recognize it, I have had WD drives before but this will definitely be the last time I ever order one from them

First impression: excellent

I've only just recently installed the drive and copied about 1TB of data from my second internal drive, via TeraCopy. It ran smoothly and completed the task. I bought this for a second backup external drive.

What a surprise ... ? It broke down just 3 months

This is ridiculous. It broke down with no warning just 3 months after the 2-year warranty expired ... !!! There no stress whatsoever. I didn't move for the entire time, no duat, no high temperatures. No unplugging. Nothing !!! I have other disks (Toshiba, Samsung & Seagate) that are 5+ years old and they work impeccanly under the same conditions. This is completely unacceptable and I AM DEFINITELY ÐONE WITH BUYING ANY WD PRODUCTS. By all means, take your time ... You have plenty of time to get your act together until you lose all your other customers and get labeled as the company producing the worst disks ever and robbing your customers of their money, data and time ...

Three WD Elements Failed

I've been using the 6TB WD Element as an external hard drive for my work as a full time wedding photographer since 2018. I guess I just stuck with what I knew, but I should have left this model behind the first time it failed me. This HD is super sensitive to being unexpectedly ejected. On the few occasions that power has gone out and shut down my desktop, it has unmounted and will not mount to the desktop again. Despite a lot of trouble shooting, the hard drive is useless and my photos are inaccessible. I'm tired of the near misses and continued problems with this hard drive.

Best buy for the money

Great drive! I have the 4TB drive. In 1985, disk storage was expensive and certainly not comparable to what we have today, and for the price!

Terrible support and drives with unsupported sw

I got the WS elements drive via amazon, it comes with software that is not supported on the wd elements so I have had to send drive back. If you supply software and none of it work why add it on the drive. and as for getting support the paper gives telephone number, they asks a list of loads of drives and you need to select what you think is correct then told you need to call another number then told its not supported. so drive going back to amazon and I will buy seagate

Unreliable and flimsy

Barely used it just to back up data just for safety Never touched it in a couple of yaers. When I came back to retrieve my data it was not working. Talking about a waste of money and all the data that it cost me. Shame WD. Thats it a low quality product you released there. Although long WD fan, my next HDD was not an WD

great performance in a compact size

I now have three of these in the 5TB size, all perform perfectly for their intended purpose, offline storage of seldom accessed files. I am able to transfer large chunks of data quickly, even between drives and they take up very little space when not in use, even fits in a pocket in my laptop bag.

Never again

How do you get rid of the driver on your Windows 11 system that has caused nothing but problems. The drive did not do a system image at all. Nothing but errors. Now can't turn on memory integrity due to this driver. I returned the WD Elements drive because I was fed up with it.

Hard drive is dead.

The hard drive became totally dead. I tried different cables and different computers, but it did not work. No proper support is available online. I was relying on that device as solid-state trouble-free, and I lost all the data that I have been collecting for years.

The right tool for the job.

This drive is proving to be reliable. I just plugged it in and it was ready to go. Nice, small form factor makes this east to pack.

Terribly unreliable

Started malfunctioning in less than a month. I have been using WD discs for decades. I have owned a passport portable drive and using it all the time since approx. 15 years now. The latest offerings by WD over the last 3-5 years (and I've bought many) are TERRIBLE and avoidable at best in terms of quality and reliability. I am looking to switch all my storage solutions away from WD. Beware!!!

Junk

Lost all my data I'd been saving for years. 1000's of artwork vector files gone. This drive has always been difficult. I have 2 of them and both have failed me. Don't waste your money.

WD 1TB Elements? USB 3.0 Portable - WDBUZG0010BBK-

I had this for about a year and it failed on me. I have business customer and personal data on that I hopefully should be able to retrieve but very inconvenient. I have to purchase another device and an another hard drive . I prefer external hard drives but i might have to go to cloud . I also had a WD My Book. That one lasted me 8 years and now that one failed also. Anyone look into buying WD Element I would be very cautious. maybe a higher end one would work.

Buy from Seagate instead

The preformence was pretty good when i first bought it and it was very easy to set up, sadly im never buying here again, their warranty is absolute trash. It covers nothing and its basically a worthless piece of paper. they dont cover any type of damage, even if it arrives broken, gets scratched or anything. in one part of the warranty they say they offer repairs, but in another part (and in my convo with support) they dont offer any repairs. it really sucks that their warranty is like this because the price is good and i was satisfied with how easy it was to use.

Two failed drives.

Please beware. I got the 2TB version because it was cheap. The first one failed within first two weeks, and the replacement drive I received overheats after 15 minutes. I am now awaiting my third drive, of which I have very little hope for.

About WD Elements

FEATURED REVIEWS

I didn't buy one. I bought TWO!

By Uncle N.

I bought the first one to back up everything on my laptop. As it turned out, I plugged that first one into my DishNet receiver just to see if it worked with my Dish DVR. It DID so it's still there. I have already stored a ton of movies and programs on it, thereby clearing space on the limited DVR. Works like a charm! I bought the second one directly from WD (which I recommend you do as well) and have safely loaded literally decades of photos and writings upon it from my laptop with a HUGE amo...
