I love the idea of this however the material is very thin. I purchased the white backdrop and it is literally see-through. I could not use this for my shot.

I like: It's portable. Everything is light-weight and folds down to fit in the trunk of my car. Awesome. It's easy to set up. Hook the top holes, expand the arms, then legs, then hook the bottom holes. I don't like: The build quality is cheap. The hinge where the legs meet the center post is made of cheap plastic. It breaks easily. The legs visibly bow and flex when set up properly. When stored properly in their bags, the fabric backdrops get wrinkles that are a huge time-suck to edit out in post. Also, the fabric isn't fully opaque, revealing the X-Drop frame with brighter flashes -- I double them up to get around this.

I have owned the X-drop system for a number of years and have loved it for headshots. The sweep backgrounds have been a great addition. Can now do full length shots without the transition from background to floor.

I just received the X-drop kit; the frame itself is about as cheap as it could possibly get. I put it together and it felt like the plastic joints would break at any moment. I don't expect to get much use out of this but need it for a job coming up. If it does break, as I expect, I'll be returning it shortly after.

Great system and quality of materials. Sadly though the shipping left something to be desired. My box came in badly beaten up by ups and the tape used to seal the package was not the adorama tabe but normal packing tape on the actual item box.

I first saw this on a video by Glyn Dewis, a British photographer who photographs WWII veterans in their homes. The locations are often small and cramped. This gadget takes up very little room when deployed, and packs down and into to a surprisingly small, light travel case. Setting it up is simple and it does just what it's supposed to do -- provide a neutral background for a portrait. Highly recommended if you shoot headshots.

I purchased this set of three 5 x 12 feet backgrounds in White, Black and Grey because you essentially get the stand and traveling case free if you buy just the backgrounds separately. I wanted to take the full length pictures so I ordered the 12 feet version over the 7 feet long version because I did not want the floor to look different in the full length pictures. If you have not read the product description carefully, these backgrounds are made out of velvety cloth. This is great for BLACK or GREY because the velvet texture will not reflect light. It make it easy for the background to go black. The Grey may look light when you see it but due to the velvet texture when you take a picture, it does not reflect lot of light and comes dark like it is shown in the product picture. I did not like WHITE or let me say that I am having hard time having white show up as white. As you can imagine, WHITE is also made of the same velvet cloth but for anything to show up as HIGH KEY proper white, that texture needs to reflect light and this cloth DOES NOT. You will need lot of background light to get this white background to give you a proper HIGH KEY white background. As some of the other reviewers at this and other websites have written about this product, this cloth can easily get wrinkled and if you are looking for paper smooth background, you will not get that kind of look. You should just go buy paper backgrounds in that case. The product picture is shown like a paper background. In reality what you will see is a background that looks like a cloth. Also the product picture shows at the top a straight line, you will not get a straight line at the top which you should not care about but still pointing out that the product picture is not a realistic representation of this product. I love the fact that everything comes in its case and everything is very easy to pack and transport. I do not need this portability but it may be important for some of you. The fabric is very light weight and will move if you have a ceiling fan running in the room. I am also finding that you need to use 70-200mm lens for the background to be filling your frame properly for single person portrait shots. When I try to use wide lenses like 24-70mm the background is not fully filling my frame and I have to use Photoshop to extend my background using healing and cloning tools. This takes extra time so I am contemplating if I should get one more of this set so that I have a 10 feet wide coverage whereas right now I only have 4.5 feet of usable width out of the 5 feet as 1/2 feet is lost in the edges not staying perfectly straight from top to bottom since this a cloth so it tends to bend inwards.

Has the potential to be a great option; however, the frame is made of very thin aluminum-type material (think soda can). The 'rivets' that join the brace supports to the plastic collar on the center support (and elsewhere) are very thin and after the second use one broke making the brace unusable, thus the entire stand unusable. I used a paperclip through the holes and was able to secure it enough to work. I had another rivet fail today and relied on the paperclip solution. I have only used this system a few times (less than 6) so it is definitely not wear and tear. Expected more, especially from Westcott. Also note that this system takes more room than you would think as the back leg extends out far.

Fast and easy to set up and tear down. Comes with a (fabric) carrying case. I was concerned that it is so lightweight that it would be too fragile and break, however, I have had it for over a year now and have used it on numerous shoots and it is still like new.

Westcott seems to be all over the place with their quality and materials. I needed it for a specific travel job and it will get it done easier than if I had to go pick up a seamless. The biggest surprise is the fabric which is like a micro fleece blanket. It will attract every possible fiber and get dirty instantly. The stand is pretty flimsy but is light and I need to bring it on a plane, so pro and con at the same time. It’s pretty easy to setup but you can’t extend the center column as much or it will create wrinkles. The instructions were not clear on that.

Great idea - poor materials. After a handful of uses the legs bent and wouldn’t retract, stand is very cheaply made. I wish I could like it but I don’t. I love Westport as a brand but this should feature on a cheap knock off site and shouldn’t bear their name.

The entire set and carrying case it light and well designed to carry, set-up and tear-down easily. I would rate it 5 stars but for the issue with tightness of the background: Its not possible to make it completely tight and fold/wrinkle free because the fabric and grommets are just a little too wide for the poles to create the tension required to tighten the fabric. I will probably add new grommets just inside each of the corners making it stretch just a few inches outward and tightening the background the way I expected it to be. I truly hope that Westcott's other backdrops will be better fitting as I add to my kit.

Love the backdrop. It’s big and takes up a lot of space in doors but the extendable arms give some wiggle room. The backdrop itself has some variations and did not arrive wrinkle free but I haven’t attempted anything to get the wrinkles out yet. I love it though!

I like this well enough, but it doesn't actually get taut enough to deal effectively with wrinkles...it still needs to be steamed. The bag it came in busted its zipper, so that's out, but I do like the lightweight design and ease of setup.

For portability and ease of use this backdrop is great. Easy to set up and many patterns to choose from. It doesn't pull as tight as I would prefer so I don't get the seamless look I would like. But I will keep playing with it to see if that can be improved. Good product for the price

Goes up and comes down easily. I prefer it to those collapsible back drops that are difficult to collapse. Yes it is lightweight so setting it up in a wind would be difficult but for a portable backdrop at a good price, this gets the job done!

I bought this because I needed a portable backdrop on short notice and this did the job nicely. I was not overly impressed with the build quality of the support system and the background looks a little cheap, but it got the job done without breaking the bank. If you need something light and portable for occasional use I recommend it, but if you need something more substantial for studio use then I would give it a pass.

I bought this backdrop with little time on my hands. Had to have it overnight and go to shoot. It is actually brighter than the images show and you have to iron it if you want to avoid creases. Expand, you also put some stress on the system so I wonder how long it will last. The foot needs a lot of space so not the best for a tight environment. None the less it did what it was supposed to and I got my shoot done. So A+ it works as intended and B+ the design is in my eyes not the best but hey it gets the job done.

When I got this back drop I found the build to be flimsy and the material horrible. If you have any pets of fur anywhere, it will attract it and just about impossible to take off.

Very flimsy...almost too flimsy...Certainly doesn't live up to the stellar reputation that Westcott has built over the years...frankly I am very surprised they put their name to this. In all fairness, I have to say it is easy enough to put up and down....that doesn't justify the cost. At half the price it would be a great deal. That being said, the Adorama folks are incredibly good and made my whole buying experience good. I will continue to do business with this store...simply the best.

I love these things their lite and the setup is simple and quick. They have great color from the back of the camera to the print out. Perfect for head and 3/4 length shots.
