I am very impressed with the performance of this softbox. It was very simple to set up and use. It gives a soft and beautiful light. I know it was constructed to use Speedlights but I feel it wouldn't be too big of a stretch to be able to use it with monolights or constant lights if one watched how much heat was generated by either. The four zipper bottom could accommodate another type of light easily. So far I've only used it with one Speedlight as the light source but I hope to change that in the near future. I used a Canon 430 EXIII RT Speedlight with my Canon 7D Mk II Camera. I set it up using the pop-up flash on the Camera as the trigger for the Speedlight and I had the diffuser installed on the Apollo Softbox and had no problem with the flash firing. I am excited about the possibilities of how I can use this softbox. I love the idea that I can take studio quality light to a spot with on electricity.

It does exactly what it's supposed to. it does not have an inner diffusion panel so that kind of sucks but over all it does what it says it does. I thought I would be okay with how it mounts to a stand but I don't like it. it's range of motion forward and backwards is pretty limited so that is very unfortunate. If you are okay with it's limited range of motion it does give off very desirable light

Just like the tittle explains! If you want to travel light here is a good tool! The light comes out even and gorgeous, great materials. Only one issue but not big, if you try to get more than 23* angles facing down, then you got some issues, but not big. Because of that I come to believe it was designed to be used as a straight light source. Buy it you'll love the result for just a few bucks!

So I finally am doing more OCF and took out my Apollo which I've had for a couple of years now. It's great...I use it now with my Vivitar flash.

I purchased two of these for on location portrait shoots I was asked to do. I have other light modifiers but I wanted something large enough but light and compact, easy to set up. This product satisfies these. It takes just a few minutes to put it together. I use this with Canon 600EX-RT and provides enough soft and diffused lights for what I needed. Only issue I have with this, i.e. the reason for the four stars not five, is the stand. Not that it is a bad stand but it is a bit tight and maybe a bit too small for this modifier. Also, with this setting, you can't tile the light more than 5 degrees (I am guessing the number) so you can't use this from high angle. I recommend that you use a sturdier c-stand if you need to give the light more angle. Again, it is not fancy but I think this will provide more than adequate light modifications with easy set up.

The orb itself is a good size light source. For my kind of work I will always put multiple speedlights inside of this for optimal light. Although it is flimsy, I don't worry about the ribs because of the fiberglass. The outer shell is rip stop and seems pretty durable. The lightstand that comes with is pretty small and I will not use it with this orb, I will most likely leave it at home or if I'm in a pinch pop a single speedlight with a grid or rogue modifier on it and use it as a kicker. All in all I am happy with my purchase and very pleased with the light this orb produces!

Pros: - The shape of the orb and umbrella-like setup is great. Puts a nice catch light in the eyes and is easy to adjust. - Easy to mount speedlight and setup. Cons: - The light stand that ships with it is nothing to write home about, not air damped and a little flimsy. The quality of the stand is only fair. The price differential of the kit vs the Orb alone is minimal. Now I know why. - I would prefer the diffuser attached some other way than with velco. After the first use, some of the velcro came unstitched from the orb and the diffuser. Had to have my wife re-sew it. Wescott needs to improve their QC. - Wish it had more downward title angle available, but the forward zipper prevents that. Summary: The light produced by the Orb is very nice. Buy the kit, repurpose their stand for some other menial task you have; get a good quality stand; and be prepared to have the velcro sewing reenforced before you start to use it.

As a mostly natural light photographer, I'm new to using speedlights for some extra spunk, but I like my lights to be soft. In comparing the Orb with a a shoot-through or simple reflective umbrella, the Orb produced much softer results. Because of its size and double layers of diffusion, it spreads and wraps around the subject nicely. I have only used it on a single subject with one speedlight, however, and I anticipate needing to use more speedlights in the orb for more people.

I read high ratings on this. What I didn't like was the build quality. The softbox cover attaches with velcro along the inside of the softbox itself. As such, it takes some time to get it put on in each of the different sections of it. It was deep, and took a lot of space. I did end up returning it and buying a competitive product which allowed you to pull the softbox cover over the outer edges. I find that I can get this on more quickly and easily than this one. My intended use was for quick set-ups at many different locations.

Very lightweight, bought a microphone stand bag at a music store for $12 and have a great case to take both of them in. There was some confusion with my purchase because I thought the special was for 2 as a pair, not per unit. Bottom line, they work and are nice and big

This Apollo is excellent for portrait photography specially if you are looking for a lightweight box for location. When using it at first I started with one flash I found the need of two and three flashes due to the size of the box and my taste.

This Orb is Great!!! Is portable and is soft but it comes with a price, the light stand is not air cushioned and the fabric is not perfect quality. After all Is just amazing and totally worth it! And is really portable and easy to mount.

easy to transport (wish it there was a carry case available); easy/quick setup; great diffusion of light; nice wrap around lighting; could use larger slit to allow more tilting of the orb. Highly recommend for site/location work.

Not what I expected. The online description says 36" Apollo Orb. Now that it is delivered, the box says it is a 43" Apollo Orb. This is too big for my needs. I needed something that can fit into my suitcase for an out of town photo workshop. Upon opening the soft box for the first time, the stitching broke holding the frame to the fabric in two places. I have not even used it yet.

Super kit

What am amazing kit for such a great price.
Westcott has enhanced the already popular Apollo product line by building the frame with fiberglass ribs. The fiberglass ribs provides added durability for those on-location situations and windy days!
The Apollo Orb is the first octagonal softbox that doesn't require an adapter ring. Simply open like an umbrella, place the light inside and attach the included diffusion panel. Designed specifically with a deeper profile, light isevenly projected for maximum output while simulating a round catch light in the eyes. Diffusion panel can be recessed for even more directional control and to prevent lens flare. Secure virtually all speedlites or hot shoe mount flash units to the included light stand with the adjustable shoe mount bracket.
Mono Arm #1080 may be required for use with larger light heads.
