KIRSTEN S : How wide is this stand?
Millard S : Can the stands be used as light stands?C. S : Their identical to westcotts other quality stands.JOSEPH L K : Yes. I use them for light strands with a swivel adaptersRAY B : There is a threaded bolt at the top of the stand but it's a different diameter of that on a light stand. So the design is not intended to be used as a light stand. I'm not aware of an adapter to allow attaching a studio light.WILSON T : No, not in a traditional sense.JEFF L : Possibly, but the stud is completely straight to fit the crossbar and not shaped for lights to securely fit (see the example). You're better off investing in separate stands for lights.
Kevin K : Can you use a 5 or 6' wide backdrop and just have extra gaps on the sides of the legs?WILSON T : Yes. You then have empty gaps flanking the backdrop if the crossbar is fully extended, or you can collapse the crossbar down to whatever length (width of background) you want to work with.LANCE B : Sure! Most of the stands have multi section top tubes that can be "stacked" to make shorter lengths also.

Solid budget system

It's well worth the price. There are sturdier systems that are easier to assemble, but not at this price point. The weakest feature of this stand is the included carry bag. It's okay. But, it feels a bit cheap and isn't a easy to load\unload as it should be. Overall though, this is a great option on a budget.

Good Value

This is a very nice item from Westcott. It goes together easily and should last quite a long time with a little care. My only real complaint is the carry bag. The two outer pole sections of the bar are too long to properly turn the bag flap down onto the velcro closure. Although not functional to the stand itself it is an annoyance factor for me.

Very Good Equipment, for hard work
