Questions & Answers

Jose Carlos G : Are the Wimberley plates (P10,20, 30 and 40) compatible with the Jobu Design Gimble ?DENNIS P : Yes. I've used them in combination for years.ROD B : Yes! Any of the brands, and there are several, that use the Arca-Swiss type system are interchangeable.
Jose Carlos G : Are these plates compatible with the Jobu Design gimble ?MICHAEL F : Hello Jobu as well as most other gimbal manufacturers use the "Arca Swiss" style clamp / plate design,I have personally used this plate with various manufacturers products without any problems, long story short this plate will work with a Jobu gimbal head.Wimberley makes superb products made to the highest standards. Kind Regards / M.FlynnWARREN S : The Jobu website indicates that it does.MICHAEL M : We use this with our Jobu Black Widow gimbal. This is a big one, used for a Canon 400mm f-4.
Shopper : does the p20 make sense on a monopod with a canon 70-200 2.8 L is?MICHAEL P : No it doesn't make sense to use on a monopod.NILS P : Yes it does. I have QR plates on all my long lens and QR L-plates on the camera bodes. It gives me more flex ability and I can easily get my camera and lens setup balanced on the ball heads on my tripod and monopod. With your 70-200 it is best to have the lens mounted to the mono pod to ease the pressure on the lens mount and gives you better control of the camera on the monopod.JEFFRFEY P : Absolutely. I have quick mounts permanently on all of my camera bodies and telephotos from 80 - 210 to 600 Nikon. Makes mounting on monopods and tripods easier and safer for the lend.CHARLES J : We think it is helpful in allowing a better balance between camera/lens and monopod. Being able to move fore and aft is beneficial. We use it with the 70-200 f/2.8 and fl4, 300mm f/4 L and 400mm F/5.6 L. Like it with all lenses.CHARLES K : I don't own a monopod, but since the p20 works great with the Canon 70-200 2.8 L IS, I don't see why it wouldn't make sense.GREG M : That is the lens I purchased it for so yesDAVID N : Yes, also good for my 180mm macro.

Happy happy

As an enthusiastic novice photographer having really nice equipment is just a bonus: being always aware that replacing a lens will be a terrible day. I appreciate the my quick release plate in not going to be the problem.

Good quality, but overpriced

On the one hand, it is a well-made, high-quality object. On the other hand, is it really worth $52? I am looking at it side-by-side with another 2.5x longer Arca Swiss plate and I am not not convinced that the Wimberley is that much better. If the price difference is truly the cost of "Made in USA" vs. "Made in China," then we are in trouble. Personally, I want to believe that most of the difference is the fee of the numerologist/astrologer who came up with the improbable exact dimensions of this plate, which make no sense, whether in metric units or funny units (I mean: 98mm or 3.9": Who came up with that stuff?). The two little "safety stops" are only as good/useful as the manufacturing tolerance of the lens's collar lets them be. I bought this plate to mount on a Canon 400mm f/5.6 and the Wimberley's safety stops don't make a clean contact with the lens's angled collar/plate connection (although it is the recommended plate for this lens). Would/will I buy it again? Well, since I only have a couple of lenses that can benefit from this kind of plate, yes I would. I probably wouldn't if I had to buy 6 of them.

Excellent Mount!

I purchased this to be used with the Wimberley sidemount head on a Gitzo tripod with a Canon 300mm f/2.8L IS II USM lens. It mounted to the lens without any issues and I have been using the lens on and off since June without any issues. I would absolutely recommend this plate.

Perfect for the 70-200mm/2.8

I keep this plate permanently mounted to my Canon 70-200mm/2.8 IS II, and the length makes it so easy to pop onto my SA Z1 head and get it to level out, especially when shooting video with a 5D3. A short plate would never work.

Perfect fitting

Had to buy this to attach my Wimberley Gimbel head to my Canon 400 DO with my 1Dx. What can I say? It balanced perfectly. My only issue is why did I wait so long to get these products. It makes shooting those birds so fun without carrying the heavy load.

Well made Plate

Typical Wimberley fine quality in a very stiff plate. My only negative is that for my purposes I wish the end hole were capture holes for a shouldered screw.

Well-made, confidence inspiring

I bought this specifically for use with a 300/2.8 when a tripod or monopod is needed. It will also serve well with a 70-200/2.8. The machining and details are top quality. As a result, the fit with top quality heads by RRS, Kirk, etc. is perfect. Attachment to tripod is fast and sure, and I know I can count on things remaining in place. The length of the P20 is sufficient to allow proper balance with my Canon lenses and bodies. A longer version such as the P30 will give more adjustment range (sliding within the head clamp) if you want it to function in the manner of a macro rail. Be sure to use the anti-twist screws.

Works as it should

I added this plate to the tripod collar/foot on the new Nikon 80-400mm lens. I did not like the short foot, and I wanted to be able to use the lens with my tripod or monopod. It aligned perfectly and does what I expected.
